It's nice to see that, in addition to your other tutorials, you keep bringing us closer to the basics of using Blender. A real asset! Thanks!!

Your timing couldn't be better. I'm new to Blender and built my first wall sconce made up of three pieces but for some reason it's 3 diff pieces which I tried joining or parenting and it just didn't work as expected. Thanks for this!

This sort of information is often outdated when you search for it on tutorials. glad to see you are keeping us up to date with this sort of basic but very crucial information. Funny thing, you explain things so clearly that much of the comments (like mine) are just praises and thanks. not questions about the tutorial.

Amazing tutorial as always and one thing i might add is if you are using the auto Boolean add on in blender then all of these wont apply to you because what the ctrl j function is very different from auto boolean achieves in the sense ctrl j combines objects while the other combines vertices so all the different materials you have on your object will be converted to the one material of the object as Ryan stated last so either name your uvs the same or just use ctrl j

Thanks for the Tutorial. ...that is what I hate about Blender: sometimes it doesnt do things automatically that you d expect it should, and in this case it does things without your consent, like copying Materials and modifiers.

does joining affect what parts of a model are effected by an armature?

jesus this is too complicated. All i want to do is put multiple objects in a group (like a "null object") and be able to manipulate them together (rotate, move, scale etc) without touching anythimg else Isn't this possible? Also in this null object/group I would like to tell in where the origin/pivot point is. Isn't this simple thing possible in blender?

For lazy people Click one and shift press the rest and press Crtl + J to combine

Your explanation is continuous and tiring: take breaks in your explanation
