Mission Breakout VERSUS Tower of Terror (Disneyland VS Disney World)

It's a battle of outer-space versus the inner-mind...or at the very least it's a comparison of two elevators.
Disneyland's Tower of Terror is gone and Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout had filled its vacancy, but the original Tower of Terror in Disney World is still in operation.
Which ride is better?

I went on guardians a few days ago and the cast member said “all lost items will go to the collection and all lost children will go to small world”

The first time we went to Disney, my dad thought the Tower of Terror was a legit hotel and he was like “I wonder what happened there?” In reference to the lightning burns on it.

Florida Tower of Terror is the clear winner. The California version was good but nowhere near as good. If they had tried to redo the Florida version, that would be unacceptable. But between the two current versions, Florida still wins. It's just a much more thoughtful execution that looks right and maintains the perfect tone from the moment you see it until the ride is over.

Tower of Terror is one of the all time greatest Disney experiences ever. GotG is a good romp and a half but it just can’t compare. I think GotG is less cohesive and more cluttered. It is more of a burst of energy rather than a well put together story. For Tower, the attraction starts when you turn onto sunset boulevard and you see this mysterious building in the distance. The queue through the abandoned gardens is subtle yet top notch. Of course you covered the lobby well in your vid but it truly is immersive. The entire queue and preshow give a great element of suspense and have a lot of storytelling through subtext. GotG seems more into being really straightforward and putting in obvious Easter eggs. The queue alone makes ToT the better attraction imo and it could have easily been a walkthrough attraction and everyone would be satisfied. The cast members are also top notch like you said. Then as you go up the elevator shaft you just get chills even after your 50th time. Moving forward also helps with this sensation. I consider the drops themselves to be almost a bonus rather than the core experience. I think GotG relies on the energy from the drops and action more. I still think it’s great, but I’d take immersiveness, suspense, and atmosphere any day. Bonus points for a better gift shop for Tower. I can’t fault anyone for preferring guardians as it is great, but Tower of Terror (even the former CA version) will win for me every time hands down.

So I’ve never been on TOT but I was pressured to go on GOTG last month and I was honestly so surprised how fun and immersive it was. I’ve seen videos of TOT and I feel like the music and bright videos of GOTG makes the ride soooo much more fun for everyone

Both rides are fine. What I don't like is that some people, when they hear someone say they like one ride better, that person goes out of their way to bash on the other attraction, just because someone said they like the other.

I will have to agree with you. I rode both versions of The Tower of Terror. I really hated the version in California Adventure. It felt like it was a major let down. When they change to GOTG, I thought it was going to suck. I was very happy to be proven wrong. The Tower of Terror in Florida is still a fun ride and I think it is the best ride, but I’m very happy about GOTG. I don’t care what anyone says I am very happy that GOTG is at California Adventure

I think I agree with your conclusion! Tower of Terror was my favorite ride in DCA (And Disneyland is my home park, not World) but the new Guardians ride is super duper well done, and probably even better than what it was before. BUT... like you said at the end...
I rode the Florida ToT for the first time last year, and it was... So. Cool. Nothing can beat the suspense and the spookiness and the immersion of the old hotel. And it definitely deserves that bonus point for the hallway in the ride!!

I’ll never forget the cast members at Tower of Terror.

One of them just stared at us the whole time wide eyed like he was possessed. And there was an extra seat, so he even ended up riding with us, which made it feel even more creepy.

And the other guy went through a whole generic safety briefing and at the end of it, he nonchalantly said something along the lines of “Please stay seated as I send you off to your never ending doom.” And someone riding with us shouted out an overly enthusiastic “Thank you!” And the guy just gives us all a look like “Wtf..” then casually walks away without saying another word as the ride begins to move.

Over the span of about a minute, I was insanely creeped out, then immediately cracking up. Those guys were even more memorable than the ride to me.

I do really prefer the theme of Tower of Terror (TOT), But the ride experience of Guardians is SO MUCH MORE FUN! When First rode Guardians, My first thought was, "This beats TOT by a LONG SHOT" With TOT, so much of the ride is devoted to building suspension. But with Guardians, The ride just starts Right away after those doors close. I also honestly feel that, when TOT had the "Final Checkout" thing, it was 10x scarier bc ALL of the lights were gone and there was mostly no sound. And when he said "And this time it's opening for you" you usually expect to drop, but you didn't! You just sat there for like 10 seconds! But I still feel Guardians is so much more fun.

Hollywoodland isn’t going away, they are taking away Bugsland for Marvel Land.

I’ve ridden both and Mission Breakout if by far the more fun ride. Everyone is just hooping, hollering and laughing the entire time, and the rock music blaring in the background is just awesome! TOT is all about the tension then you do a few drops in the dark and it’s over. I would never leave Disneyland Resort without doing Mission Breakout at least once. I could miss TOT in Disney World and not be mad.

Coming from the perspective of someone with a 9 year old boy. First time I took my son to Disneyland he was 2; right before they made the switch. We usually go 1-2 times per year. Once he was tall enough to ride it, me, and his mom made the mistake of lying to him that it wasn’t a thrill ride. My son being the very observant kid he is caught on and kept asking us if we were sure it wasn’t a thrill ride. Us, knowing he would love the ride, continued to assure him it wasn’t. We made it all the way to boarding. That’s when our son 6 at the time asked the cast member what the ride does. Lol. So he tell him, and our son freaks out. We had to leave. Spent the rest of the 5 day trip trying to convince him. Could not convince him no matter how hard we tried that trip, and the next 4 trips after. Moral of that is don’t ever lie to your kids about a ride because he would have gotten on a lot sooner if we didn’t betray his trust.

Finally we went for a week Christmas 2022, just turned 9. He was finally ready to get on. He was scared, but once the music kicked on, he was absolutely loving all of it. We had the Born to Be Wild version fist. My sons absolutely adores Guardians of The Galaxy. It’s a very upbeat, high energy vibe the whole time, which makes it awesome. I doubt the TOT can get that out of my son. So as a father, being able to enjoy the ride with my son, watching him absolutely going crazy to the music and screaming to the ride just makes my day. So therefore TOT can never compare in my eyes. I will say before Guardians was there the TOT was my favorite ride at the park.

This Christmas we are going to WDW for 2 weeks. He will finally get to try TOT. Knowing my son he’s not going to like it as much, but we will see. The delayed drop times though is spot on.

GOTG feels a lot more thrilling and fun since it directly launches you up with multiple drop, while TOT has a lot more tension with a story while going up, but I prefer GOTG since I have a bias for thrilling rides and gotg overall

The tower of terror experience is supposed to be dark and not fun because it meant to be a scary experience
