DENTAL SCHOOL DEBT // How to earn more as a new dental grad

With the cost of dental school being so high, dental students are graduating with a huge amount of debt. So when you graduate, you want to start earning. In this video, I talk about my experience moving to a small remote community right after graduating from dental school, and how I earned more and learned more as a dentist in my first year of practice. Hopefully this gives you some ideas of what's out there if you want to increase your income as a new dental grad.

I'm going to be starting dental school this fall and have been pretty anxious looking at the loans I'll have to stomach. This is definitely something I could consider. Thanks Joel!

I'd also add, if your goal is to optimize for income, working in rural USA is even more lucrative.

The US dollar alone is worth ~30-40% more than the CAD and income tax is significantly lower (not to mention the cost of living). If you practice in a state with zero (state) income tax it makes a substantial difference.

Ex. $300, 000 CAD (in Ontario) after tax is ~174, 000 CAD but that same $300, 000 income in the state of Florida is more like ~230, 000 (USD) which then converts to $316, 000 CAD. You essentially double your income working in the US vs Canada when factoring for currency and taxes.

Not only that but it's actually easier (on average) to produce more as a dentist in the US than it is in Canada. Attribute this to fewer dentists per capita and a greater emphasis on dental healthcare by the general public, this is what I've seen in the data and anecdotally.

Hey Joel, really appreciate your videos (and your work with boot camp)! You said in this video you were able to negotiate for 50% of your production. Having only talked to dentist in the US that make closer to 30-35%, could you perhaps talk about the differences in percent production between the US and Canada? and if looking for a remote area here in the US could still get me closer to 40+% production?

I think 🤔 younger dentist's are more honest...😊 More transparency in the process...😊

Hi Joel! What is the best way to search for job opportunities like this? I'm graduating dental school in a year and want to work in a rural area. It's encouraging to hear your experience was so positive.
