I’m not sure if this is her reason but once you open wine and it’s exposed to oxygen it changes the flavor and will grow a specific bacteria in a few days

So after reading all the comments the lesson I’ve learned as a flight passenger is that I should always ask for more wine as long as the bottle is unfinished to avoid wastage. Thank you guys❤

I'm a flight attendant and the answer to this question is bc we do not recycle open bottles of alcohol, or any perishable items. Everything gets thrown out or poured out b4 landing, And by doing this the trash does not get that extra weight to make it easier for catering to empty the galley trash.

I worked on the ground crews. I raided the galleys on arrival. If I beat the catering truck I'd score big. I worked the Concorde arrival plenty

Wine spoils quickly after opening. A way to preserve it longer is you buy a vacuum plug and pull all the air out. If its a good one it vacuums and plugs tightly. However from experience 4 days or so it becomes vinegar (depending on the type of wine) with the plug. But it extends it for a day or two.

It’s a rule they have to dispose of all opened bottles and food to prevent contaminants, I was on a long haul flight where I saw the stewards throwing caviar away 😢🤦‍♂️

She's pouring it out for all the homies who went down in other planes

Flights discard leftover wine from bottles primarily due to hygiene, freshness, and safety concerns. Once a wine bottle is opened, it begins to oxidize, which can alter its taste and quality over time. Since the cabin environment in an airplane can accelerate this process, airlines prefer to serve freshly opened wine to ensure a consistent and high-quality experience for passengers. Additionally, leftover wine might not be properly stored between flights, raising concerns about contamination or spoilage, so discarding it ensures passenger safety and maintains service standards.

"Ask for more wine"

Got it 😂😂😂

because opened alcohol bottles and perishable items aren't recycled, everything is disposed of or poured out before landing to avoid misuse. This also helps lighten the trash load, making it easier for catering staff to empty the galley waste.

Around here unfinished liquor is called man downs, we rescue them in the morning, into our livers.

Ans =On one flight, the attendant gave me an extra, free glass of wine to finish the bottle off … guess he saw that i needed it 🍷😊! All the open bottles are emptied prior to landing, especially international flights. Customs mandates us to seal all unused liquors in the carts and discard all open bottle contents.

Hope this helps everyone to understand 😅
Edit - mujhe jitna pata tha maine utana btaya 😁😅but thanks for 1.6k likes mujhe life mai pheli baar itne likes mile ❤️

there are caps for them that u can use an oxygen extractor to create a vacuum we use them all the time in the bar

When it is exposed to oxygen it will start producing gases and when closed the pressure will be developed inside which has a tendency to break or blast as it is glass.

Thats because they shortpour while serving, be in intentionally or unintentionally. Once they land they have a closing stock inventory. If any excess of alcohol is registered, there is no other way to prevent the exise penalty apart from dumping the excess. We bartenders rather prefer to indulge that 😊

When Midwest Express was in service, they had great champagne breakfasts. They asked us if we wanted to finish the bottle on several flights. They were a great airline. 2 seats only on each side of the aisle, and comfortable! Can't forget to mention the chocolate chip cookies. Miss Midwest Express 😢

Maybe altitude and bacterias that grow. But if ur gonna do that, why not offer someone to buy it or take it? So many things wasted in this world, and plane tickets are expensive enough, why not just give it away/half price?

They sell pumps that take out the air from the bottles. They're not expensive.
