Even when he showed he had the last plate and changed to his arceus drip, I guessed he was gonna be cool amd let us battle to see who summoned arceus and giratina...then he just backstabs me and I feel genuinely betrayed. My BEST FRIEND

Throughout the whole game, I guessed that Volo was evil solely because he looks like the kind of guy who can easily put on an evil smile and laugh maniacally, so this reveal, plus the theme, stunned me

I didn’t trust him for 80% of the game until he was one of the few people to pick you up right after your own people threw you to the wayside off of an unproven theory. When I saw the action of him still being there to help, I thought “Maybe he isn’t the villain after all, or maybe that’s what they want us to think.” That’s when I realized this game really put the good guys against you and the villains closer to you, making you question the morality of either side. Volo was just a man of curiosity driven to insanity.

Stage 1: Denial (Volo reveals to you his plan at the Giratina statue)

Stage 2: Anger (Volo reveals to you that he was the reason the entire game plot began and why you're stuck in Hisui)

Stage 3: Bargaining (You try to keep convincing yourself that Volo is just a misguided being. Though, this stage of grief, along with anger, can also be present during him ass-whooping you in his fights)


Stage 4: Depression (You beat Volo, but part ways with the one person who you used to call your best friend and realize you will never see him again)

Stage 5: Acceptance (You accept the fact that you were used by Volo since the beginning of the game, and that as much as you cry, you know Ingo probably has it worse)

Honestly the first time I saw him I thought "he's gonna betray me" but the fact that he stayed with us the whole game, helped us prepare for the fight against dialga/palkia, told us about the plates, I genuinely believed I was wrong.
I had practically forgotten my doubts about him, and then it happened.

I was in shock.

On top of that, he singlehandedly was the most difficult battle in a Pokémon game for me, a truly fitting final battle.
I remember defeating him, I even recorded the final hit, I only had my ursaluna left on half health. Then it happened.
Many more attempts later I finally defeated giritina, only my zoroark was left, I recorded the final hit as I let out an sound of excitement, and then we'll
"no, there's no way."
I lost again
This fight was so difficult.

Honestly volo is my favourite character in this game, possibly in this series.
This and avalugg were the highlights of this game for me.

I just assumed the interest in Sinnoh’s myths ran in the family. Safe to say I was NOT expecting this.

I knew something was up with him but didn't think he'd be a straight up menace. I expected him to be like a strong trainer like Cynthia who would hide his power until its time to truly test if we're worthy enough to meet Arceus. Maybe to be revealed that he had some kind of encounter with Arceus himself at one point. But nope dude was only using us to get the plates for himself.

I knew he’d be important. But the way he casually mentioned being the reason you’re here shook me to my core. Great character.
