Battlestar Galactica Waggling Cylon Raider

There are those who believe... that Galactica's late April 1979 Cylon Raider wing-waggle is a tribute to the historical events of 9 May 1943. On that day two thirds of a Luftwaffe Junkers Ju88 night fighter crew defected to the allies at RAF Dyce, Aberdeen, Scotland.

After circling near Peterhead to be picked up on radar, the night fighter was intercepted by Spitfires from No. 165 "Ceylon" Squadron out of RAF Dice Luftwaffe pilot Herbert Schmid immediately lowered his undercarriage and waggled his wings to signal his distress and desire to surrender. He was then escorted to land at RAF Dyce.

The Ju88 nightfighter had some advanced German equipment aboard that would soon be helpful to the allies.

The details of the incident are much more complex (cloak and dagger) than summarized here and are worth an examination.

I remembered this episode when Starbuck in the new series used a Cylon raider to get back to the Galactica and was waggling on approach. I liked how that episode was a mix of two important OG Starbuck episodes.

Those are some plush seats in the Raider. Cylons surely appreciate comfort :)

You don't want to ever see an F-16 waggle his wings while flying next to you. He's not asking for help.
