There's quite a lot of things to love about Amphibia. But one of the things I love a lot is its inclusion of Thai dialogue

Gosh!! I love how this show represents Thai culture :"3

Some corrections
[Even tho i'm not sure if you made the subtitles or they are part of the episodes in this parts, anyway lol]
0:01 — สวัสดีค่ะ (sà-wàt-dii kâ)
0:10 — สวัสดีครับ (sà-wàt-dii kráp)
The thai texts of the videos says only "Sà-wàt-dii (สวัสดี)"
And for 0:10 it is kráp/krap 'cause kâ is for women and kráp is for men

Fun fact: Lakhana Narksiri (Polly's voice actress in Thai, and who participated in the chapter as the Thai teacher) guided Amanda Leighton, the correct pronunciation of words in Thai.
Leave your applause for the Thai actress in the comments

1:15 Can we appreciate that Anne understands Thai even though she can’t fluently speak it? I think it’s pretty cool

I really like how they let them actually speak full sentences of Thai. It's not some 1 or 2 words fake out rubbish. This is actually advanced. And I really like how the characters, for the most part, don't randomly speak it to other characters who can clearly not understand them

Polly is way OP
She learned a foreign language in a week by just watching some movies

Polly learning Thai from the romcom is essentially the same as someone saying they learned Japanese from Anime.

i like how they made Anne understand Thai but can't speak it fluently lmao, like me, my family speaks in cantonese and i often reply in either chinese or english, since I'm not fluent in Cantonese

When I was growing up, having other cultures be represented in Disney like this would never have been expected. So it's good to know the times are changing positively in that regard 😊

As of October '21, all but one show in Disney's Saturday morning rotation features an Asian female character. But "Amphibia" invokes the most use of that character's ancestral tongue.

Molly McGee is half-Thai, but she never speaks it. Same deal with Gloria Sato, whose parents speak Japanese to each other. Marinette Dupain-Chang's terrible Mandarin, and the fact that her white not-boyfriend speaks it better than her, was a plot point in one episode and the "Ladydragon" movie.

(In the interest of full disclosure, it must be noted that Luz Noceda appears fluent in Spanish, and even her girlfriend from a completely different dimension is picking it up.)

1:14 One of my favorite small details is when Mr. Boonchuy accidentally calls Anne's grandma, it's daytime where Anne is. Yet, her grandma says "Do you know what time it is?!" implying that she is picking up from Thailand, where it would be the middle of the night.

The fact that Anne can't speak fluent Thai but can still understand it pretty well means everything to me, that's how it be with me and Spanish.(╥﹏╥)👌🏼❤️🇲🇽

I have to say as someone half that It makes me soooo happy to see Thai represantation like this, it's so refreshing. My mom wants me to speak Thai more and to me it can kinda be a hassle, but this cartoon really did make me a bit more motivated to learn Thai

Amphibia is really unique in that sense. It is the only ''kids'' show I know that has Asian culture representation without feeling stereotypical.

Polly is definitely a master at learning a new language
As a Thai myself, I can confidently say that our language system is too damn complicated
But learning from Romcoms? Damn that's a whole new level right there

I love how Amphibia and Owl House's main character speak their native language occasionally, makes them feel more real. Also the way Anne and her Granny talk is the exact same way I talk with my fillipino grandma. Gods I want a Fillipino rep as a main character so bad, my nationality get excited like dogs when someone mentions us!

Really wish Disney+ could give us the option to watch the whole show in Thai. Just think it would be fun as hell to watch the show in Anne's homeland language.

Unless the language is there, in which case I can't seem to figure out which one it is.
