"I WAS PREĒę̋GNANT WITH YéËw" 😭 she harnessed all the indie film mothers in that one line

I often worry that Caitlin was raised by a thousand maniacs because there is no other explanation for how perfectly she becomes all these characters.

that "Let's just dance" is the most well-acted, line I've ever heard.

The way she comes from happy - to batshit crazy - to sad dancing, nails it

And she literally has no idea what’s going on with her children, she seems really involved but has no idea who her kids are and what they are going through. Totally clueless

This mother in this indie movie is going to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, and during the speech she’ll thank her own mother.

The really good fresh-out-of-prison-mechanic is 100% played by Mark Wahlberg 🤣

Complaining about not being able to go to college and then telling your kid “we don’t have to go to school tomorrow” cause your going be hung over, is such a good wrap up to this whole toxic mother trope lol

The way "Mommy's not sad, she's just dancing" would have the internet in a chokehold if this was a real indie film.

Can we appreciate the genius of her saying "now look at me" like a possessed demon and then transitioning into "look at me now" by ABBA? We have fear, we have dancing, we have heartbreak, and we have the ugly mustard-yellow dress in less than two minutes.

Bonus: a mom buys her youngest children new, expensive toys and the oldest gets angry asking where the money came from. The money either came from somewhere sketchy or was their only rent money. The mom justifies it by saying they all deserve to have a lil fun and then tried to offer the oldest her gift like a new scarf of something. The oldest rejects it and the mom gets irrationally angry and then the oldest asks, “mom, are you high?” The mom denies being high when she is in fact high

Movies will portray an emotionally abusive parent and act like they made something deep

YES oh my god why are they always walking around the house so damn fast and frantic lol?? The daughter (and it's usually a daughter) is always the same too, a parentified lonely stick in the mud who is her mother's living emotional crutch but also the physical manifestation of her mom's resentment. The girl, probably named something like Mia, will have to be shown how to loosen up by a quirky manic-pixie dream friend or by falling in love with a boy; Mia will eventually have to choose between her mother and this boy.

That barely audible yet deeply aggressive "DN'T YOU EVR SPK T'ME LIKE THAH" is brilliant

Watching her drunkenly weep/rage dance to ABBA just unlocked a long suppressed childhood memory that I’d very much like to forget about again.

Ah yes, allowing guys that are no good and potentially abusive close to her children too soon, a heavy layer of, "my life is trash because I have to raise you, " and top it off with implying the burden is on the child to stop everything to make her feel worthy in her weak moments ... the generational trauma trifecta. She nailed it, just like her other characters. This woman deserves her own skit show.

I had an ex whose mother was like this. She screamed at her pregnant daughter once because she dropped a slice of cheese on the floor, blaming her for her anger issues because she’s a mom now, then downed a glass of wine and started cooking as if nothing happened while Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach played on her phone.

Shit was wild.

“I AM YOUR MOTHER!!!”

Whenever someone says that, I always think of Toni Collette & how she got lots of praise but not one trophy for that insanely powerful performance she gave in that chaotic rollercoaster called, “Hereditary” ❤️

Also, you delivered all them performances, honey. This was fabulous 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I like to imagine that her kid witnessed all of this in the span of a minute at like 3 in the morning when he came downstairs for a snack, and is standing in the kitchen slowly eating crackers while his mom has a breakdown.

It’s not narcissistic abuse if it’s set to abba, she’s just a complicated free spirit✨💕
