With your wonderful sounding voice, videos of poetry readings would be F A N T A S T I C‼️ Maybe that would help with the slumps and no doubt, we'd enjoy it. 📖

The Decameron is one of my Top 5 all-time favoritest books! I've adored it since I first read it in late 2002, when I was 22, about to turn 23. My favorite translation is by Mark Musa and Peter Bondella, since it so authentically restores the deliciously filthy language and double entendres. I know quite a few stories almost by heart. If I ever get to 100 subscribers, I'll be doing a planned 105-video series on the book.

After reading the works of Shakespeare in 2020, I was not disappointed by The Decameron. It was fun. Part of the fun was finding where Shakespeare sourced a lot of his material. If he wasn't stealing from Ovid he was swiping plots from Boccaccio. I think you'll like it. Break it up with your shorter books, maybe. My mammoth for this month is P&V's translation of Anna Karenina, my first Tolstoy.

Hi Jennifer. I enjoyed the Decameron but it can feel a bit repetitive. I think it would be best to read it over a two or three month period. That would make it more enjoyable. So yes your plan of carrying it to April is a good plan for that book.

Sooo curious what you will think of Please Look After Mom! You are 100% right that it is a polarizing book, but 🤞 You often come down on the side of liking controversial books so! 🤞🤞😂 I really enjoyed it soo much. Style included.

I read the Decameron last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was intimidated before starting it, but once I got into it, I was hooked. Afterwards I read the Canterbury Tales, and the Decameron was 100 times better.

Ooh I have 1Q84 and have been looking for a reason to start. However, I think MotM might be a good opportunity for me to finally start Anna Karenina!

I'll be continuing on with Anna Karenina, though I'm currently stuck in the sort of episode I do not enjoy. Hoping the next chapter is about trains, politics, or farm technology... I decided last night I should pick up a Ukrainian read, never mind that I already owned at least one. While browsing through some options my itchy trigger finger decided on "Death and the Penguin" by Andrey Kurkov. Not the sort of read I went in looking for, but maybe it's what my brain needed. Kim Ji-Young Born 1982's size is tempting. Decameron sounds to be the "cheeriest" book on the list. "The Republic" is the one I would easily gravitate towards. Hope you have a great month!!!

I'm curious what you will think of the Decameron 👀 We talked about it at uni in two or three different classes this semester and it got me interested in it as well. I'm planning on reading The Luminaries for MotM, really looking forward to it!

1Q84 sits on my shelf unread. I read Kim Jiyoung 2 years ago and it was an interesting read. I cannot wait to see what you make of it. A quick read to say the least. The Allegory of the Cave is wonderful though it’s been years and years since I’ve read it.

I believe that you will not have any trouble reading 1Q84 by Murakami. I just flew through it.

Just an FYI, the allegory of the cave doesn't show up until Book VII of The Republic which is towards the back of the book. I read The Decameron last year. My copy is just over 800 pages.

I’ve been having so much fun daydreaming about which mammoth I’ll be reading. I have quite a few and they all sound good. The Goldfinch, Count of Monte Cristo, Mirror and the Light, A Little Life, War and Peace, Crimson Petal and the White, and The Brontës by Juliet Barker. I’ll read them all eventually but am enjoying the process. 🤎🦣🤎

I hope your plans work for you to get out of your slump. I will participate in MotM by reading A Suitable Boy. I will not finish it in March though since it 1474 pages and I am also reading other books.

I would like to read 1Q84 someday. I have never read any of Murakami's fiction but I think this sounds interesting. I have read Please Look After Mom and I really liked it. I hope you do too.

I might read The Decameron someday but it isn't a priority for me anytime soon.

If you love 1Q84 you may want to watch the David Lynch film INLAND EMPIRE (yes, the whole title is capitalized). They're surprisingly similar.
