The "explanation"- sidetracking is something I know well from our sessions. I lerned so much new stuff I never encountered in my live bevore while listening and chilling while parts of our group discussed/ explained or tried to convince the DM with it. (Well, to be fair I also got some coins in the ring with detailed explainations about expected psychological effects I wanted to achive or how to stich up my own Spleen, without passing out...) ^^

Fun fact about the English *phoneme* [z]: Just like [v] did from [f], it developed from it’s unvoiced counterpart [s] during Old English when between two voiced sounds.

Even though [f] –> [v] & [s] –> [z] are the same soundchange (uvoiced fricative becoming voiced), only <v> became common place in English orthography
