The right move but I'm not sure it will matter much. Whoever they hire as his replacement will likely adopt the prevailing hitting philosophy in professional baseball which is in my opinion assbackwards. What the heck happened to teaching a short compact swing that helps a hitter to keep his weight back, level shoulders, balanced follow through, and can reach both outside and inside corners? Putting the ball in play. Taking what the pitcher gives you and hit it the other way. We're unfortunately left with the launch angle bs and other stupid metrics of today.
Yes, I'm old school and long for a Whitey Ball approach. It is what I teach the kiddos on my hs team. With the Cards having one of the youngest roster, I think it is time to turn the clock back and teach the simplest approach at the plate. Before you dudes say it, I am not holding my breath. :)

Just go outside the organization now and get some people that know what they are doing. We don't need any more softball coaches. And no Albert or Jim or Holliday isn't coming.

I completely agree with everything you said. This was pretty easy to see coming after the offense the last two years, the FO was gonna have to show the fans they were doing SOMEthing to address the issues.

Hitting coach teaching and giving you an advantage...last night Mets..Pete goes yard and shattered the Brewers hearts.

High batting average and high OBP, was the standard that I always went by. F that launch angle and other goofy stuff. If you have a few guys with high OBP it puts pressure on the other team. I always go with WHIP for pitchers, the lower the better. I don't understand all this % crap. Just get on base and hit the F'n ball.

Good to see but the larger problem is the roster itself is flawed with poor hitters. Again that is on Mo.

I do agree with a lot of the sentiment here in the comments. You are not putting pressure on anyone if you are not on base. Getting on base by any means possible is a good way to look at it. How many times does a pitcher walk the first batter of an inning and they end up scoring? It happens a And we have to get a coach that emphasizes contact and hitting with runners on. We have to get better at that for sure.

Should be the entire coaching staff, except Willie McGee. I mean why not the pitching coach? He previously coached at Duke University and has also coached at Pfeiffer University, USC Upstate, Wofford College, and Catawba College. Really with all that MAJOR league experience you wonder why the young arms don't realize their potential. Do the veteran arms really respect his opinion.

While they did win 83 games this year, it felt more like a backdoor cover. They had a surge at the end (after they were already out of it) that made things look nicer than they were. It’s annoying that the FO can point to this win total and act like the team is better than it is. Just looking at some underlying numbers, the ‘24 team easily could’ve finished way worse.

Positive news, glad the organization wasn't tone deaf

Such a tough decision I’m sure. I’m so sick of fans acting like we would be in the Padres spot if we had Schildt. So narrow minded…

Lets hope they find someone that can help this team!

Tossing hitting coaches out is not really going to help. We need hitters that make contact

According to Woo, they’ve already privately told Goldy he’s not coming back. Makes sense. And firing Ward also makes sense. I don’t why any club would keep their hitting coach with that kind of a performance.

Ok I'm happy. The rest of the off-season is icing on the cake. This was THE move I needed to see

The negative impact Goldy had the last two years cant be overstated. Goldy pushing Ward on us hurt the Cards more than his poor play.
