it's incredible that one of the best university on earth has the worst recording equipment in the world. Embarrassing. Maldacena is always a pleasure to follow, regardless of the cheap ass institution that is documenting his talk.

i think the fundamental problem with these "modern" physics is that they still try to linearize a system with assumptions that are not really valid, dirac, harmonic oscillators, etc. a hamiltonian cannot be isolated from entropy, etc. this current physics seems to assume a fractal nature of self-scaling which doesn't fit into a quantum mechanic observations of complexity, ie, testing for a subsystem of qubits destroys the entanglement of a system. measuring/observing the properties of a QM system destroys the subsystem/qubit information.
