MG 34 was an example of how to make a brilliant machine gun

I have a signed photo of Ritterkrueztrager Hinrich Ahrens
He has 4x tank badges on his sleeve
Along with the wound badge in silver Infantry assault badge, close combat clasp, Iron cross kl 1 and 2. German cross in gold and knight cross of the iron cross

Since he has the K98 pouches he was probably the assistant MG gunner. In this very moment he was probably replacing the gunner in carrying it around or the gunner was simply not there/dead/wounded etc. Main gunner usually caried a pistol. Binoculars are handy in firing a MG thus one seen hanging on his chest.

Keep this series up, please. It is the minutua such as this which flesh out the History of WW2 otherwise lost in broad strokes of mass commercial presentations

I believe the top "Panzer Nacker" had 21 personal tank kills. Four gold patches and one silver.

My father destroyed 2 Russian tanks. He always mentioned the people inside the tank what made him sad. Greetings from Linz Austria 🇦🇹 Europe!

I really like the fade in coloring. It’s almost like the people in the picture are coming to life and that that moment of time is about to resume before the fading back to black and white puts them back into their time.

Great channel! Always so much information from a single photograph.

The famous Tank Destruction Badge awarded to troops that individually destroyed enemy tanks but I have seen period photos that it was added neatly
one on top of the other silver badges with the golden badge, for destroying 5 tanks. But it takes great courage just to individually knock out a T-34...

I really appreciate this work. Not to deprecate other WW2 youtubers but I've found these shorts and your stuff really well done and a cut above. Great stuff.

Germany could you these men back home. Too many husbands and fathers never made it back and look at Germany socially now.🤦🏻‍♂️

From what I understand about the award is that a gold version was seldom seen being worn by anyone, sometimes more than 5 or 6 silver, single kill awards were worn stacked on the same sleeve.
It’s more than likely a single, silver award in this picture…BUT ! It might be a gold one too.

Magnifying the image may show signs that multiple badges were previously sewn on. If so it could indicate 5 being replaced by one.
