Her expression is calm, with no signs of a struggle. Could this Inca maiden have been given alcohol to ensure a calm death?

I'm really glad for her that she didn't feel herself dying. She's only asleep, but not breathing and she'll never wake up. She looks so peaceful...

She was heavily drugged she's not going to panic she probably didn't even realize she was in the hole

“She died of a general suffocation...I don’t think she suffered”. They had the child so intoxicated, I don’t think she realized what was happening

At least she didn’t get her heart ripped out like the aztecs

No presence of violence doesn't mean it's no less inhuman. We don't know how blessed some of us are to be born in today's world, I know at least I am.

I really hope that they’re right and that she didn’t suffer. She’s such a beautiful young girl even as a 500 year-old mummy. It’s too bad that she didn’t get to live.

makes me feel sad that they did this to adults let alone kids, a little less terrifying knowing she just slipped away

This is the most humane way I have seen someone sacrificed. I mean, if you think about how the ancient mayans sacrificed people to the gods. Ripping the hearts out of victims while alive and it kept pumping on the prists/buchers hand.. Victim in horrible pain even when a short time.

the videos are too short for the vast information that needs to be shown.

2:56 is so heartbreaking to me. The fact that they essential buried her alive and then put this beautiful, white-feathered headdress on her head, which would be discovered 500 years later, it's just so sad.

It’s sad that this stuff happened a lot in the past and is still happening now. The fact that she’s a child makes it more depressing. I hope she rests in peace

Everyone is quick to attack the outdated practices of ancient civilizations when they’re people of color or “indias” or “savages”, but no one wants to talk about ancient Irish tribal sacrifices that were violent? Or the ancient Greek relationships that were between men and small boys? Or perhaps the sacrifices of Iron Age Britain?

Yes we can criticize the past, but it is THE PAST. It happened, and it was in a time when we believed differently and now we know better.

The animated parts look so precise on what happened!

I was in Arequipa spring 2022 and went to see Jaunita. Several things stood out for me. First was getting my head around this accepted cultural practice intellectually. Many of these little children (4, 5, 6 year olds) were brought to Cusco by their parents in hopes they would be chosen for this "honor". My understanding is that the families of chosen children were rewarded by an elevation of their family status within their communities. Motivation I suppose? The other thing that this video doesn't mention but was very clear at the head was bashed in on one side. They contend that she wasn't quite dead when she was placed in her grave, and that they ended her life before burying her. But she was certainly drugged and hyperthermic by this time and certainly suffering from altitude sickness. Coca is still ingested today to alleviate the symptoms.
