Gross unmitigated negligence is a crime.  If the folks at Mt.Gox are guilty they should go to jail and their assets should be seized for their customers.

I take my coins off the exchanges within about 5 minutes of purchase and transfer them to a secure wallet. Is it actually true that people have hundreds of dollars worth of bitcoins in a managed wallet?

The Problem is that user must trust in third pary. Because they must leave the Bitcoin on a wallet of the third party. A missing thing in BTC Protocol is a Stop Sale Flag for a defined Amount of Bitcoins that can set te Bitcoin unspendable by the Owner. If the third Party get a Key to the Stop Saled Bitcoin-Amount, they can sale them without have the Amount of Bitcoin on an own Wallet. When the Trade is done, the Flag set back to zero. Also the Stop Sale Flag must be set to zero after a Timeout so that the third party can not Block the Amount from Sale for ever. The real trade can be done without third Party direct betwen the Traders this way. (sorry my bad english)

All the Mt. Gox customers should start a class action lawsuits (customers in the United States should start the legal process!) against Mt. Gox and extradite Mark Karpeles from Japan to the United States!

There needs a way of holding people with bad faith accountable. And should not have to depend on any government rule to assist with that. If mt. gox gets away with this it's a big invite for more criminals.

what I would like to know is, how in the F was a Russian running a Major exchange in Japan? for anyone who have not been, you cannot even enter certain places in Japan, unless you are a "member", and this girl ready to blow the whistle just committing suicide in Singapore, where hits are made with a simple "Full-king watch". come on, this stinks to high hell! "yeah, esp in japan Mr Andreas" how who this guy running a multi million dollar exchange? come clean. this is BS.
