Same experience with Ranchos Vs Bilstein... " Using a truck as a truck will wear out parts" I wish more guys understood this.

Out 5100’s on ‘18 4Runner. I pull a small utility trailer a lot. With the constant couple inches of squat in the rear, the bilesteins started clunking. No leaks but they clunk on every crack in the road. I have air-lift bags to go inside the rear coils but will do when I replace with another brand of shock. Fronts are doing great!

I went with TuffTruck springs and the Bil 5100 in the back of my Ram. Couldn't be happier. I went with air bags in my last ram and found it made it ride much rougher.

@HitchinMitch is bilstein 5100 have any issues so far? And what about ur zinc coated shocks? Did they get corroded after 3-4 winters? Or still hold up? Or did u get them washed up after few winter times?

Stock shocks/struts on my 4Runner lasted 230, 000 miles, and were still adequate. I decided to replace them when doing front end overhaul - again, nothing was wrong with any of the suspension components but I lifted it a bit and installed AM UCA's to accommodate lift and to get caster within specs.
One bilstein strut blew up in less than a year of on-road driving.
Their warranty is not worth the paper it's written on - the shock is $90, they demand photos (that I provided) but they also want me to send the bad part to them on my dime AND pay for a return replacement shipping if (IF!!!) they (THEY) find it defective which costs you $50. Again, it's the best case-scenario providing they DO find it defective. Otherwise, you are out of shipping cost AND have no strut.
Sweet deal. NOT! It might be "german engineering" but it's mexican manufacturing and american "business attitude" towards customers.

I wouldn't raise it to the top knotch. I took all of the preload out of mine and I like it much better.

Had rancho on my Ranger was back and they wore out quick. Have Bilstein 5100/4600 on my Armada and these are by far the best setup for my tow vehicle….have 80-90k miles on them and they still ride comfortably.

Hey I installed B 5:22 4600s on my 04 Dodge 2500 . I had tried both Bilstein 4600 and 5100 seemed same ride.

So the ride became more rough with 5100s? What about passing bumps and joints on low speed?

90k miles would be an absolute dreammm. My f150’s shocks get worn out after about 10k driving my 5 mile dirt road every day 😭

I have a 2002 Z71 avalanche that is a work truck, plowing and trailering a lawn business. Are the 5100 a good choice, or should I do something different?

Just installed a set of 5100’s on my 2012 Chevy 2500hd, seems a little rough, was there a break in period?

I have had both Bilstein and Rancho. Bilstein quality is definitely superior. However I find the ride a bit harsh. Just ordered Rancho 9000 for a 2006 F250 with 75, 000 miles. The 3/4 Fords ride like an empty dump truck. Just looking to soften up the ride as much as possible. I have had Ranchos fail in under 30, 000 miles . However mostly I have had them last very well. Maybe I will jump back in and report on the shocks on the F250.

Stainless shocks? Think they are steel with a zinc coating

Are the bilistine shocks very noisy like the Rancho shocks I regret them

got a used 2012 manual tacoma TRD sport with 120, 000 miles and after careful consideration, I went with replacement 4600's. My rationale was that this is Bilstein signature series was used by the dealer for all around use. Market hype is intended to sell products and also means your getting into a specialty area which translates into compromise somewhere.

Would you recommend blisten or rough country for both front and rear ? Looking for softer one.

the more weight you put on those shocks the better they ride/work. adding air bags just hampers the shock action and they will bounce the truck like shit. You want a nice ride then add a comfort leaf (3rd leaf) with those shocks.
