Just purchased an OM1n MD. ($120 AUD) excellent camera that I always wanted. Bought an OM10 in 1980. Only recently changed the light seals. Both are taking great photos.

I do very much like your videos. They are so interesting, well-informed and complete. I especially like how you place the camera in the context of the time. This one was funny with your description of the Olympus FTL.

My OM-1 is one of my favorite cameras to shoot for personal enjoyment. What really surprised me about it was not its size (I had owned a Pentax MX before), but how light it is and how quiet its shutter is. It has a quiet elegance to it without feeling cheap or unreliable. Maitani talked a lot about making a unique camera, he certainly succeeded.

After close to 20 yrs of neclect in not favourable conditions, the OM10 my mother gave me still worked perfectly. I have a few OM1's in my collection and back in the day, was allowed to take a few photo's with my father's OM2. At one point i had an OM4, thinking i needed more bells and wizzles. From all those, the OM 1 is my favourite. It was my first SLR before trading it for an OM 4 that in its turn was swapped for a canon eos. Then the OM1 was the first 'new' SLR again when i picked up film photography again a few years back. Fan girl? I'd say h***yeah 🎉😊

The OM10 was my first camera, handed down to me in middle school from my father. I’m currently shooting on an OM2n but using all the same 40 year old glass my dad had back in the day. These cameras are fantastic. I’m a loyal Olympus fan because of them.

Love the videos. Just picked up an OM-1 with a 1.4 lens. Excited to get some new light seals in it and put a roll of film through it.

One thing that I thought was the best feature for the OM-1 and OM-2 back in the day was the optional leather hand strap that attached to the grip on the winder or motor drive. It gave the photographer really good one hand control of the camera. Have you ever seen one?

I noticed in your review of the three Olympus models that you compare features and maybe some reliability differences.
I owned an OM1 and and OM1n then added an OM2.
The OM2 stood out in one VERY important thing and you did not mention it at all. Off the film metering. Yes, off the shutter curtain or the film itself.
Not just off the film plane but in a well researched horizontal pattern.
Not a center weighted or full frame averaged meter or a spot meter, no, a real life pattern that simulated what generally people aimed at.
It was the first camera that could do night photography on auto exposure up to two minutes.
It was a masterpiece for exposure even though many thought that film stock does not always have the same reflective so it could make mistakes. Even reciprocity was calculated for long exposures. Discussions in Photo magazines went crazy.

I bought an OM-1 in 1978. It was my 2nd camera and I really liked it. I got an OMG on a whim a couple years ago. Just as good and has a better layout.

OM-1is my favorite one by far.Not only because of its technical remarkable characteristics but also because it its such a beauty !
My first one was stollen years ago but I was recently able to replace it with a well kept copy wich is a joy to shoot.
Good video.Thanks.

I dont know about the OM-10 being cheap anymore maybe in Japan but over here they are selling for ridiculous prices. Very hard to find for less than $60 anymore but most are well over $100. I bought my OM-10 for $8 with a 50 mm F1.8 the original flash and the camera itself with the manual adapter too back in 2017 and I still have it. It was my first film camera.

More regarding the OM series. The reason it sounded fairly quiet was due to the air-braking pistons attached to the mirror.
Just before the mirror would hit the upper motion the pistons compressed the air and slowed it down. Also the remaining gap below the ground glass was surrounded by a baffle that formed an enclosed area. The air could not escape quickly so it also helped slow the mirror and avoid the well known "slap" from other cameras.
The mirror slap was much less than any other camera.
The OM series were revolutionary in many ways but these details are not very well known.
Back then innovation was what drove the market. Everyone came out with innovative marketing worthy changes. Amazing time.
The OM10 was a very nice camera indeed. Sadly, one drop and it was an expensive paper weight.

While the OM-1 is more famous and historically significant, to my mind the OM-2 was more revolutionary: Off the film metering permitting incredible accuracy at long exposures, the first SLR to feature through the lens flash, aperture priority exposure - all amazingly in a package no bigger and barely heavier than the original OM-1. It's also more flexible: in "manual" mode it functions almost identically to an OM-1. But aperture priority auto is a function you want. There's a reason why most pros favored this shooting mode: It just works really, really well.

Also, I have never had the privilege of seeing an OM-3Ti in the flesh. I have had the opportunity to try out an OM-3. Certainly a beautiful camera! But I must respectfully disagree with your "best of the best" characterization. Without the accuracy of a stepless electronically controlled shutter, the multi spot metering system seems almost gimmicky and overkill. I would argue that the OM-4Ti is the best of the OM series. Perhaps the best manual focus 35mm SLR, or even best 35mm SLR of them all.
