** Rush is such an awesome band. Moving pictures is a timeless classic and my best friend and I always listen to Rush, AC/DC and KISS together whenever we're together. You've seen me do a lot of AC/DC and KISS, but not really any Rush. I did Tom Sawyer a while back before I did tabs, but the video quality was complete garbage because I was using a laptop camera since my webcam had broken. (I think I might have taken the video down because I was ashamed I let that video quality go up) Well, I've stayed away from most Rush generally because Geddy's tone is hard to nail and a lot of Rush is really hard to play. I've been practicing YYZ since I picked up the electric bass back in 9th grade (Going on 8 years now). My playing is getting better over time, so I think I can start with some of the easier Rush songs and work my way up to YYZ (or maybe just go for it eventually). As far as his tone goes, I'm a college student, so I don't have the money to buy fresh strings as often as I'd like (I replace about once a semester), but even if I had the brand new rotosound 66 strings, I need more experience emulating tone in order to do it justice. I didn't want to let that hold me back, so I picked a pretty solid, general bass tone for this video. I think it worked out well. The main reason I covered Limelight was because I got a request to play Rush and it got me thinking about all of this again. It took a while to tab out the song. Geddy plays it differently live, than this studio version (more little licks), so I just went with what I could hear on the studio version.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)

Geddy Lee is a bass goat.
Good Cover, and R.I.P Neil Peart.

Great job! Bar 54... you have F#F# for the first two notes. I swear I'm hearing F#C#, with an accentuated stop on the C#.

These are the details which keep me up at night.

Hey there, great channel, I just discovered it. I was wondering why you play a 5-string on this song, unless I missed something the low string is unused. Nice thumb rest though :-) I was also wondering why you do a lot of playing with one finger (apparently), like at 1:41 bar 65-66 -- for me it wouldn't be a choice, I couldn't do that with one finger anyway, but just wondering why you would CHOOSE to do it with one finger. I'm enjoying your songs, lots of great stuff, thanks.

can you post the warm up video / bass line that we did last night prior to getting started to the play along. I really liked having that to follow along with.
