ARE LED LIGHTS BULBS LEGAL TO USE

In this video we will try to explain when LED Headlight bulbs are legal to use. You have to make sure the LED headlight bulbs are designed right and have almost identical light pattern. There are some terrible LED Headlight bulbs on the market. NEVER USE LED HEADLIGHT BULBS WITHOUT PROJECTORS or you will blind oncoming traffic.

The simple answer to this is YES.
(in the UK)
It is illegal to replace any exterior non LED bulb with an LED bulb. This includes tail light, side light, indicator, brake light and headlight bulbs. This is because the replacement bulbs do not carry the E mark, so are not approved. It would be highly likely that the car would fail the annual MOT test.

Most newer LED bulbs now are in spec with the original halogens, without having to be realigned in a reflector housing.
You may have to pay a little more, but the benefits are worth it, with the brighter and further casting light.

I’ve got LEDs in my projector lights and DRL / Highbeam . Great low beam light output and pattern . Highbeam, Awesome . My DRLs don’t bother other drives just like my lowbeams .

Again, as I have been saying. COMMON SENSE PEOPLE. Check your alignment on your headlights ANYTIME you change your headlights to aftermarket. Read all manuals and understand certain headlights do NOT work well in fog or snow. LED headlights rate poor in those conditions, especially the white or brilliant white lights. I live in a Northern region and can tell you, LED lights are NOT a good choice for headlights. I would even suggest investing in the slight blue colored standard hologen headlights or stick to the best quality stock headlights you can buy.

You shouldn't install LED in projectors either, you'll get shadowing and no hot spot.

The reason your light pattern with LEDs and projectors is worse is because those projectors are alligned for a 360° halogen bulb. The real answer is that no halogen housing is made for xenon or hid and it will never be perfect, but you can easily adjust the reflector ones by installing the bulb with the LEDs shining left and right (at 3 and 9 o clock) so that the majority of the light shines out from the reflector in a horizontal line while in projectors you cant do that. Sure you have a pronounced cut off but the spread and hotspot are failing the mark inside the housing... I tried it, It fails no matter how you install the bulb.

LED headlights in new Acura cars are blinding because they spread so wide whereas HID are focused.

I would use one, just one. Directed at oncoming cars with led lights that blind me. Other road users need to be given consideration. The French used to have laws that allowed only yellow headlights lights for the safety of all.
Actually I wouldn't waste my money but the thought would be there. Black soot cluster bombs aimed at their window screens perhaps? Lol

LED bulbs are illegal to use in ANY reflector lens headlight unit. The same is for certain projector lens headlight units. Manufacturers spend millions on headlight tech so that they fall within country specific laws and safety regulation. Anyone who tells you they aren't illegal are idiots. A reflector lens is exactly that it reflects light from a specific bulb 'Halogen' which is set at the correct height so as when your vehicle drives up and down hills and turn left and right your aren't blinding oncoming traffic. This is what LED bulbs do because they flood the entire headlight so the light isn't concentrated in one place like a halogen bulb is. Also LED bulbs are sold in different light output and colour. Halogen bulbs are one colour and one output for a very specific reason, so as not to blind oncoming drivers. The sooner the law is made more transparent about this the better because here in the UK it's getting really bad and the police just don't have the resources to do anything about it. This year the MOT test here in the UK is changing so that anyone found using these bulbs when there vehicle specification doesn't allow it will get an MOT fail and quite rightly to. If it were down to me I'd give everyone caught using them a 6 month driving ban for there reckless attitude towards other drivers safety. I've had countless incidents where I literally cannot see road markings due to a driver using LED bulbs in reflector lens headlights and temporarily blinding me. I guess until people start dying in horrific vehicle collisions because of this the authorities won't do anything.
