I absolutely love watching you throughout the year and then watching the wrap up and thinking “I remember when WE experienced that”

Saw a quote today that reminded me of you: "Think not of the books you've bought as a 'to be read' pile. Instead, think of your bookcase as a wine cellar. You collect books to be read at the right time, the right place, and the right mood." My favorite book was probably either "How Are You Going to Pay For That?" (Nonfiction) or "The Bear and the Nightingale" (fiction). Have a great weekend, Emma!

I LOVE that you read what you fancy and not just what is ‘popular’ at the moment. Watching your videos has allowed me to expand my own book choices and literature education 💗

My favorite book of 2022 was War and Peace which you and Carolyn totally convinced me to read and I'm so glad I did! For 2023, you inspired me to read around the world and I'm so excited.

A Farewell to Arms is one of my all time favorites. Can’t wait to hear what you think. Thank you for recommending Book of Hours- it’s been so special to me and helped me be there for my best friend who just lost her dad to cancer better than I could have ever been before reading his poems. Happy new year of reading! 💛✨

Stuck reading 50 pages of dreadfully dry and boring economics curriculum (I'm studying geography and not all aspects are as fun and interesting), and I'm grateful that I have videos like this that I can run in the background. Thank you, Emmie, for helping me get through my own reading.

Emma, you GOTTA read Clarice Lispector's Near The Wild Heart!!! It's the only thing I could think listening to you talking about you faves this year. I read it when I was a literature student and this book changed me in ways I still can't put in words. It's beautiful, you'll love it.
Also, your excitement about Pedro Paramo makes me want to read it this year! Right now I'm in a Kawabata wave (my favourite from 2022 was Beauty and Sadness), so let's see where it leads me

I’d say my favorite book of 2022 would have been “Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Brontë. I’ve always told myself that I’d eventually read it and then when I finally read it with a book club, I’ve been kicking myself wondering ‘why haven’t I read it ten years ago?’. I’m definitely on board with reading more classics this year, especially ones from your ‘A GAME OF TOMES bookclub’ video.

So many of your top books are high up on my 2023 tbr thanks to the way you spoke so eloquently and passionately about them throughout the year. I can’t wait to read them. My favourite book of 2022 was Tess of the D’Urbervilles, closely followed by Of Mice and Men and Jude the Obscure.

Emmie, I am always impressed by how diverse your reading interests are. You are interested in so many subjects and forms of literature. (I have a hard time reading - or at least finishing - books where the subject matter doesn't interest me.) My current read is 'Case Study' by Graeme Macrae Burnet. It's fantastic.

I love how your list was full of books that are personal to you in one way or another! You really inspire me to not just read, but rather to fall in love with literature too and connect with it.
I’m getting back into skiing for the first time since COVID lockdowns and I’m travelling to Alberta in a few months so I might consider reading Icefields! It sounds really cool. Also I definitely agree with you that winter is an incredible season :D

Thank you for making videos btw, I really value your thoughts!
