DJI pocket 3 Screen Issue NOT caused by its Protective Case - DJI Service Repair Experience

Well, my DJI Pocket 3's screen broke and the same issue like other users have experienced except mine is not able to lock in the horizontal position. It was still able to stay in vertical position. I filed a repair request at DJI's website and which they checked and send me a new replacement. Turn around time 8 days.

Many thanks for posting this. I admit that i have been promoting the theory that the problem relates to the supplied case for several weeks. Clearly there is more to it than that, although it remains possible that the case can accelerate a failure which is eventually going to affect some user's cameras eventually anyway. Personally i am not too nervous about mine as the proportion of defective cameras is small in comparison to the huge number sold, but i have to admit that i always rotate the screen with fingers either side rather than snapping it round with just one finger. Many thanks for taking the trouble to pass on your experience.

Wow very good of them to just deploy you a brand new camera, instead of repairing it.

I hope that the new camera is possibly a newer production run with an upgraded mechanism.

Oh man I pray mine doesn't do this too. Its also why I bought my camera direct from DJI. Because you never know how old the cameras are in best buy or other camera store.

Hi LH, so I picked up the protector you show here based on your prior review and it worked great for our trip to Antartica, thank you. I did notice that sometimes the camera had tried to come on while the cover was on, and the gimbal protect mode engaged. So far no issues with the OSMO. The case that DJI provides just isn't practical for use when moving around, though it is handy if you have a case for all the gadgets. Now just need to find a case that would hold all the gear using the protector instead...

That's a shame. I have also bought that screen and gimbal protector because of your review. I haven't received my Pocket 3 yet. Been waiting 6 weeks. Main DJI shop in Birmingham England where i live say the delay is due to Chinese New Year🤷. Hopefully your issue is just bad luck with a mechanic failure. Its good to know DJI aftercare is really good. I think you really do need the two year cover when purchasing this camera. I purchased this when i signed for the camera. I knew there was a wait but i think this is a bit ridiculous really. Wander if anyone else had a long wait for theirs?

I'm facing the same problem from today. Several times i tried to slide horizontal but screen get back to vertical position. is there any solution i can get from home?

Hi I purchased the same screen and gimbal protector as yours, but does yours scratch the gimbal when you press on the cover to open it? Mine does and it’s annoying. It gives the sides of the gimbal head little scratch marks.

Ok, I'm writing this first and if someone later says they stole the idea from me :)

Since the screen is held by a magnet and a strong one at that (neodymium?), such a magnet may become demagnetized by high temperature (if you put any magnet in the oven).
During long recording, the camera heats up and maybe this temperature is enough to weaken the effect of the magnet?

Yeah kind of what i have been thinking. It is a mechanical part so failure seem likely. I bought the dji refresh so hopefully i am covered for two years atleast

No surprise as their QC on the DJI action 2 camera didn't even address the overheating. They gave users a free case to reduce overheating but it actually didn't fit the camera properly so you risked your camera falling out.
