“Hopelessly Devoted to You” was written by John Farrar for the 1978 musical film “Grease.” The film starred English-born Australian singer, songwriter, and actress Olivia Newton-John. Her recording of the song was from the album “Grease: The Original Soundtrack from the Motion Picture.” The single peaked at No. 1 on the 1978 charts in Belgium, Canada, Ireland, and the Netherlands. According to songwriter Farrar, more time was spent writing the lyrics for this song than any of his others, using “every thesaurus and every rhyming dictionary” he had in order to make it work. In this rendition, pianist Charles Manning improvises the ever popular “Hopelessly Devoted to You.”
