Fly like... a Kite! 🪁
It's a long weekend here in Greece with Monday, "Καθαρά/ η Δευτέρα" (you will hear both), meaning litteraly clean Monday, a national holiday, marking the beginning of the 40-day lent that leads to the Greek Orthodox Easter.
Usually one of the best days of spring, people go outside, to fly their kites, enjoy special kind of foods with friends and family.
The ones that are characteristic of Καθαρά Δευτέρα and can be found everywhere, the holy trinity as I call them is "λαγάνα" (lagana), a special kind of bread made with unleavened dough in bakeries ONLY on that day, "ταραμοσαλάτα" (taramosalàta) a spread made of fish roe and "χαλβά" (halvà) a sweet made with tahini.
.
