How should you properly care for your cycling kit? How often does yours end up in a soggy pile on our floor for hours, sometimes days, post-ride? We’ve teamed up with ASSOS for today’s video, our channel partner, to talk you through this ‘caring for your kit’.

Isn’t it funny how we care so much for our bikes, and other equipment...but what about our cycling kit?! Well, how often does it end up in a soggy pile on our floor for hours, sometimes days, post-ride?!

Well, given how often we use that kit, it’s important we keep it in tip-top shape and get as much life out of them as possible.

That includes how we store our kit, how we wash and dry our kit, even what we do when we’re travelling. So, we’ve teamed up with ASSOS for today’s video, our channel partner, to talk you through this ‘caring for your kit’. Although obviously, all this advice stands for other brands and products too.

If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍

What's the first thing you do when you get in from a ride?

The last few bits of kit I've bought have come with labels that say they've got built in protections so you don't need to be washed after every use and they encourage multiple uses before washing to save wear and the environment.

Checking your pockets is a good tip - The number of times I've washed empty Gel Wrappers :D

Next: How to care for your kid. Not something triathletes normally do. They usually let let them lie in a pile on the floor.

Good to know but dosent seem very practical to wash a single garment on its own especially when you ride everyday. Maybe a good rinse then washing multiple garments together.

I always put my kit with my regular clothes, at 40 degrees. Oops

The only thing I would suggest is with the waterproof jackets. You can get dedicated wash solutions for waterproof garments, and also sprays to bring back the waterproofing / repellant properties from camping stores

Mine go in a mesh bag so when the load comes out, you can find them and they don’t end up in the dryer with the rest by mistake.

For commuting the only case that works for me: use public transport on the way to work (or go rly gently on low pulse) and full speed on your bike way back home. Because wearing same sweat socked garments after morning ride is not a good thing, not for you, not for you kit and not for all people around you.

I walk in the house, and into the shower with my kit. Just like the video. Then I strip down and shower and the little bit of soap etc washes em perfect. Once a month or so I throw all my workout gear in a nice wash cycle with some antimicrobial Basefresh and its amazing. Keeps the clothes clean and fresh all month (or two...) long!

40 deg wash, everything in together, never had colour run, ever. Lycra won't melt at 40 deg. There's no way the wshing machine is going on everyday though.

Washing at liwer temperature tends to create more residue in my washing machine, it's good to wash the washing machine by doing an empty cycle from time to time. But there's no way I'm washing a single kit every day, I do wash them separately from my other clothes but even working ou every day won't fill the washing machine so I just wait until I got enough of them. We're in summer and some regions are already getting water restrictions, let's care a little about environmental resources shall we ? I've got no real solution for the commute side except that your morning travel shouldn't be too intense so that you avoid sweating too much in it. I have had saddle sores in the past, wipes helped me fix that issue. Hanging my kit in my office would be really awkward especially considering I'm in an open space with non-cyclists, i understand your video is about what's ideal to spare your kit but it's not really practical 😕
