What to do in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1 day? There are lots of things to do. And luckily, there are many free things to do and see, as you'll see in our video.
Thessaloniki is the second-largest city in Greece and was founded in 315 BC by Cassander of Macedon and was named after his wife Thessalonike, daughter of Philip II of Macedon and sister of Alexander the Great.

It was one of the most important cities during the Roman and Byzantine Empires. It was also part of the Ottoman Empire for five centuries.
That's why Thessaloniki is considered the cultural capital of Greece, as it has vibrant cultural life and there are always festivals and events happening (eg. Thessaloniki International Fair and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

Thank you for the beautiful video.
Just a little detail: Alexander 's teacher was the philosopher Aristotle whose statue is in Aristotelous square and he was also from the area. The Aristotle university of Thessaloniki is the biggest in Greece. The students use to touch his toe for good luck in their exams.

Thanks for the video. I liked your comments, but if you don't mind I will give some more details for those interested...

The first statue of the woman carrying things on her back was a monument to the women of Pindos. During WWII while the Greek soldiers were fighting the Italians on the Pindos mountains at the borders with Albania, the women from the villages on the mountains would carry weapons, ammo, food, clothes and messages to the soldiers. The way up there was too treacherous for any vehicles and even mules would have difficulties in the cold and snow, so they were carrying everything on their backs and they were going on foot. That's why the women of Pindos are honored with statues and monuments all over Greece.

The person that painted the tower white was not a slave, but a prisoner. The tower was used by the Ottomans as a prison and was known as the tower of blood. The Ottomans didn't like the name, so one of the prisoners offered to lime wash it white in exchange for his freedom. Since then the tower was known as The White Tower. During WWII the tower had to be covered with paintings of trees and with earthly colors, so that it will not stand out so much, in hopes of protecting in from German bombarding. It was never repainted white after that, but the name remained.

I will not comment anything about Alexander the great, Aristoteles or Aristotelous square, since Ελένη Ασημοπούλου already did in the comments.

There are many more places to see in Thessaloniki and you can find very good food for all budgets, but you need more time...

became a legend amongst mortal men"
