What a huge mess? Analysing Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The United Nations has for the first time has done a comprehensive assessment of the world’s biodiversity. The Global Assessment Report on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services which was released on May 6, 2019, in Paris has ominous news for the residents of this planet. This thousand-page report was prepared by 450 researchers, who studied fifteen thousand scientific and government documents and has been unanimously approved by 100 countries.

In the past 50 years, the human population has doubled and the global economy has quadrupled. This has increased the demand for energy and material leading to massive exploitation and excessive pollution.

Scientists say, that nature is in more trouble now than at any time in human history. Extinction is looming in the face for over a million species of plants and animals.
This biodiversity crisis is humanity’s fault. But the report says that there is still time to save the Earth if governments, companies and individuals take action.

Global scenario has disturbed a lot in last 100 years. I as a common man of this Mother Earth, can't do much to contain these industrial wastes (when even the govt are not in a good state to shut things down due to major economic concerns). What affected me the most was when I saw a Cow choking as she ate some plastic bag. Lots of cows and other animals choke to death due to plastic waste intake. Since then, At maximum possible situations, I have either stopped using polythene bags, reusing what I currently have for shopping purposes, giving back extra poly bags to shopkeepers or carrying my own backpack for shopping. We individuals with even the smallest effort can change the entire scenario of our globe. Don't consider your contribution as small, consider it as your personal effort to contain the menace.

Government and companies will never bother and individuals will never get to understand the bigger picture.. Small handful of people are only concerned and majority just doesn't care.. we are doomed.

Very true & at least by now we have to take initiative to restore many Grasslands & Jungles. As an individual we can avoid usage of plastics in our life ASAP.... NGO too can contribute by reforestation provided appropriate funds been given for the cause 😊✌️
