It's great that SQL Server has JSON support but grading it would be a 6/10 whereas Postgres JSON support is 9/10 and DuckDBs is 10/10. Giving it its own data type is very much welcomed ... but why has it taken Microsoft so long to do so...and still not there in September? In the modern world of small incremental changes .... this just doesn't seem to happen with SQL Server. It's fair to say that DuckDB has introduced more features to devs in the last 12 months than SQL Server has in the last 6 years. Some of DuckDBs SQL 'extensions' such as group by all, pivot syntax, no need for actual select, exclude etc are things SQL Server needs to copy. I have built my 25 year data career on SQL Server but it seriously needs to improve. Its being left behind.
