As an Indian I'm offended to hear there are countries that have beaten us at our own game

500, 000 COP is $126.04 USD
60, 000 COP is $15.12 USD for anybody wondering.

Cartagena was the only place in Colombia that I didn't enjoy... The fort is cool though.

That's crazy, an extra $100. I run into this kind of crap all over the world, but rarely are they this greedy.

And they have the cheek to get angry at you for not letting them rob you 😂

I got scammed in Cartagena. My advice is dont buy from anyone in the streets. Stick to the official businesses/offices.

I went to the beach in Cartagena and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. The scammers are literally relentless

Been to Cartagena twice and can confirm. Felt like a walking dollar sign and unavoidable to not get scammed somewhere, the worst one was a 400.000 COP massage 😅😅

That’s just part of why Colombia does not have a thriving tourism industry.

Same in the Dominican Republic. I call it "the white price". Always get your girl to negotiate.

Thanks. With large sums close to $100 it's a huge deal if the scam is several times more expensive than it should be.

Gotta admit when I'm traveling I don't care if I'm scammed into paying $2 instead of 1$ for dinner - it's still a bargain dinner for me, I can't be bothered to haggle over 1 dollar when it's still super cheap compared to what I'd normally pay.

But for prices over $20 I'll pay attention

I've been there a couple times. The street vendors are outrageous.

Unfortunately many Colombians do not see tourists as anything other than a bag full of money.

They do this really bad at the border of mexico and san diego. Scammers will go buy a bus ticket to get across the border and then come back to the line of people waiting to cross and try to sell those tickets for more... One guy told me and my buddy a hundred dollars each and we said no. We ended up finding the bus station ourselves and finding out the tickets rolling ten dollars per person.. Later in line to get on the bus. There was a guy who told us he paid two hundred dollars for his ticket on the bus....

Just got back from Cartagena. Stayed at Sofitel, toured Isla Islands, then stayed in Centro for a couple days. Best trip hands down. Just don’t be Papaya and always just say no gracias.

My holiday in LATAM was lovely but I learned quickly to stop reacting to any interaction started by the locals.

Dude go rincon Del Mar 2 hours down the coast from Cartagena. Opposite way that to Santa Marta. Great place. Cheap and no scams

Bangkok was terrible for this type of thing when I was there many moons ago. Literally as soon as you set foot outside the airport
