Natural Photonics: The Iridescent Sea Mouse.

Показать описание
There is so much going on underwater, and we have literally only touched the surface in discovering what lies beneath.
Myself, I’m happy to let this watery world remain mysterious, but now and then when I find along the shore, one of it’s denizens, the discovery has me feeling like a child, in complete awe of what I’ve found.
The sea mouse is technically a marine worm, but what is amazing about this creature is it’s natural photonic engineering, seen in the luminescent colours of it’s fur, developed as a deterrent for sea predators.
The sea mouse can live up to 3000 m underwater, and will hunt for other worms and small sea creatures.
They are often found washed up after storms. I was lucky enough to find a living one today.
