LEGO Volkswagen Camper Van T1/T2 Comparison (2011, 10220 | 2021, 10279)

Today we take a look at and compare both LEGO Volkswagen Camper Vans! The first Camper Van came out in 2011 and was the T1 with 1332 pieces (set 10220). The second Camper Van is the T2 that came out in 2021 with 2207 pieces (set 10279). Both LEGO sets are amazingly detailed, have great part usage, include moving components, and do a great job of representing the iconic Volkswagen van. They both look good, great comparison. I think if I had to pick I'd say I like the little details the T1 has more, plus I think it's the more iconic vehicle. Must admit that if I was collecting these I'd be disappointed that they're different scales. I guess Lego are in the hard position of deciding whether to compromise new sets to fit in with old (Speed Champions all over again).

The T2 really got that pug (dog) look on the front end that I can't unsee. I'm undecided on the T2 and going to take next 10 years to think about it.

Great review Jordan! The T1 is from mid 60s and the T2 was the last version made from the 70s. I love the detail elements of the T2 but I like the exterior of the T1.

The viewable technic pieces made me pass on the T2 when I saw it at the Lego store. So you are not the only one put off by those.

I like the T1 better. Just the look and shape of it. Except for the color, there I definitely like the blue better. I love that both vans come with the curtains. Very important to Germans!

I got the older one for Christmas like 3 years ago and thought it was awesome then like a week later I looked on the lego store and see it's retired and i looked at it and was like, "You're the last of your kind"

I just bought the T2 and can’t wait. Face it most vans have that angled pop up roof so that to me is the most realistic. I just love the color and interior of the T1 but I guess you can’t have it all

I absolutely must buy the T2. I grew up living out of one for several years of my childhood. So many memories.

I think that I prefer the V1 but both are very good models.

T1 is instantly recognisable, T2 looks like a RAF-251 from soviet union.

I prefer the T1; i believe that the proportions are more accurate than the T2. In addition the interior is more quirky and there are much more features on the older model such as mirror, access to the shirt, opening front windows. The only thing done better on the t2 are the wheels and the opening mechanisms. But i dislike how complicated the pop up roof is on the newer model because the underside is too messy, whereas it is flush and clean in the old model.

I actually think they are both great and am looking forward to getting the T2 soon. I wonder if the size difference is that much in real life too or if it's just Lego making a bigger model....

Am I the only one still waiting for the T3?! All the cool toy's are T1's and T2's, but my old (t)rusty T3 is nowhere to be found (yet). Fingers crossed

We got a real t2 in our garage it’s rusty and stripped interior I can’t wait to have it restored I swear German cars are the best

for some reason the T2 feels "unfinished" to me, or maybe because the T1 was such an incredible set it's hard to match it

For an extra 900 pieces the T2 really doesnt look that much bigger, definitely noticeably bigger but for almost double the piece count u wud expect it to b much bigger. The details on the interior are amazing tho
