Come join me as I explore and dine in Darien CT!

Darien (/ˌdɛəriˈæn/ dair-ee-AN) is a coastal town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. With a population of 21,499 and a land area of just under 13 square miles, it is the smallest town on Connecticut's Gold Coast. The town is part of the Western Connecticut Planning Region. It has the youngest population of any non-college town in Connecticut, a high rate of marriage, and high average number of children per household.

Situated on Long Island Sound between the cities of Stamford and Norwalk, the town has relatively few office buildings. Many residents commute to New York City, with two Metro-North railroad stations, Noroton Heights and Darien, which link Darien to Grand Central Terminal. For recreation, the town boasts eleven parks,[5] two public beaches, the private Tokeneke beach club, three country clubs including the first organized golf club in Connecticut, a riding and racquet club, the public Darien Boat Club, and Noroton Yacht Club.

History
Edit
Main article: History of Darien, Connecticut
According to early records, the first clearings of land were made by men from the New Haven and Wethersfield colonies and from Norwalk in about 1641. It was not until 1739, however, that the Middlesex Society of the Town of Stamford built the first community church, now the First Congregational Church of Darien, which stands on the original site at the corner of Brookside Road and the Boston Post Road.[6]

Tories raided the town several times during the American Revolution; at one point, they took 26 men in the parish prisoner for five months, including the Reverend Moses Mather, pastor of the parish. The Loyalist-Patriot conflict in Darien is the setting for the novel Tory Hole, the first book by children's author Louise Hall Tharp. Middlesex Parish was incorporated as the Town of Darien in 1820.

Your videos are so fun to watch! I spent my early childhood in CT and nearly every summer in Darien with my grandparents, so many fond memories. I’m planning to take my niece and BF back next Fall to celebrate her graduation from High School. Your videos are coming in handy to share with them as we plan our trip. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!

Hi, I took a en or pages from your book. I, too was born and raised in CT, but explored very little of the state always opting to go out of town. Thinking the grass is always greener somewhere else. Low and behold, I rented a car and drove over 1300 miles in this beautiful state of ours and explored so many nooks from the shoreline of Madison to the hills of Litchfield. I am in awe of the beauty that is our state. Found some great treasures and places along the way, thus far Guilford and Litchfield have been my faves visually. Took a visit to the LItchfield INN thinking of a staycation . I know Woodbury is known for antiques, Roosevelt Salvage and Antique in Derby has a ton of really old treasures, like ice tongs and meat scales. When you are in New Haven again, stop by PIstachio, great place.
