The twelth in a series of fourteen films to star Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as the Twentieth Century's most iconic iteration of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively.

When the king of tiny Rovina is assassinated, their prime minister approaches renowned British detective Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) to escort Prince Nikolas (Leslie Vincent) home to assume power. Holmes foils a sabotage plot against the prince and, presenting Nikolas as the nephew of his friend Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce), the trio sails to Alexandria, Egypt. On board, singer Sheila (Marjorie Riordan) acts suspiciously, and three strangers boarding in Lisbon, Portugal, seem to know Nikolas.

This feature is presented in restored high definition with no advertisement breaks, as it deserves to be seen.

Wonderful movie. What was a sheer delight it was to hear the voice of Sheila Woodbury (Marjorie Riordon). And who would have thought of Dr Watson as having such a great singing voice, hardly expected from what some described as a bumbling person in all those films. (Yes, but Rathbone referred to Bruce as the most lovable character on the stage).

I have always loved watching Basil Rathbone (as Sherlock) and Nigel Bruce (as Dr. Watson) as compared to other actors in other versions of Sherlock Holmes. Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce just offer that unique dosage of laughter so rare to come by in the midst 0f an ocean of mystery that needs to be solved.

Always loved Sherlock Holmes, voraciously reading the novels as a child. This is one of the best filmed episodes. Excellent cinematography, fine acting... and the plot...I never suspected who the real prince was...loved Holmes smashing the wrist of the knife thrower, casually blaming it on the portal. Loved Watson calling him "Mr. Murder" instead of "Mr. Merico".
