The end of Genki 1 is so close I can almost taste it! Thanks so much for these videos. I am using the 2nd Edition, and your explanations are so much clearer in comparison. I also like the character Ando-san so we can learn about the hyper-masculine/super informal way of speaking that textbooks don't seem to cover.

You've legit saved me. I took first year Japanese at a university last year, but it used a different textbook (Nakama) and didn't even cover all of it. I just transferred to a better university in a different province and started the second year course. OMFG. I have no idea what anyone is saying or what these grammar points/sentence structures are. Thanks to you, I can pick up some grammar I missed from Genki I (ch9-12) and actually understand how to make these sentences. I was honestly so embarrassed and scared that I would just immediately fail. I'm really glad you're here <3 Will keep following along with you this year because you explain things way better than the Prof (no offense, she is lovely but very "do it yourself"). Thank

I just want to thank you for all of these videos, they are extremely useful. I just started Genki 2, but came back to review these videos (chapter 11 & 12) because I wasn't really comfortable with a few grammar points, but your explanations have answered all of my questions. Thank you! :)

I watch these videos after having gone through each chapter in genki. My plan is to continue with genki 2, then quartet 1 and 2, and the thought of having these videos as a guiding hand is very encouraging! Thanks for being so positive and thorough! :)

For the "you cant say other people want, using -tai", does that rule apply if you are writing a story from a narrator's perspective?

For example, in a story, you might write "John wanted to eat cake". Would it be okay to write "John wa keki o tabetai"? Since the narrator is non-diegetic/omniscient, is that sentence okay to use?

These videos continue to be awesome. I'm thinking of signing up for the Paetreon since I study alone, and I really need help with the Pair Work sections of the book. Does the $5 tier grant participation with that? Since right now, I can only do that with my tutor like once a week, and it's not always enough time. That would really help.

I've always known that you're not supposed to eat the outside shell/pod of the edamame, but I... kinda like how it tastes so I eat it anyway. Hell yeah, insoluble fibre I guess.

Been working through these slowly lately (busy with internship and got into a bad car accident :( ) but I just want to thank you again so much for these videos. They're truly an indispensable resource for anyone learning <33 You explain everything so clearly it's amazing.
I haven't kept up with my goal of finishing genki 1 by July and I've even broke my daily anki habit like 2 weeks ago but I'm going to try and power through to hopefully finish all the Genki 1+2 videos and understanding the grammar by end of August!!! Maybe I'll catch up to the intermediate series before that is done haha. Sorry for the long comment, I'm mostly typing all of this to motivate myself and keep myself accountable xD

Can you use the -tai conjugation + ですか to ask if someone wants to do something? Or would the -しよう conjugation be used?

Translation: I usually play games or watch anime, and things like that. I don't often study, work or anything on the weekends.
温泉に行った事がある?本当に行きたいな。
Translation: Have you ever been to an onsen? I really want to go to one.

Be sure to check the "expression notes" section of this chapter in the Genki textbook. It's a long one!
