I am glad to hear that War Doctor lived up to your expectations. It sounds like a horrifying book, but I agree that it is important to try to understand what others have gone through. I agree with you that self help books usually aren't the best.

Definitely agree with you on Nation of Islam, although I don’t believe that NoI was Baldwin’s major focus in The Fire Next Time. He also sorta highlighted how he didn’t agree with their teachings but in a way that he didn’t want to disrespect Islam as a whole (and that makes sense when we consider that NoI was the major brand of Islam Black American knew at the time). My major takeaway from the collection is that fighting racism from white Americans with anger and beliefs that mirror their racism, won’t dismantle systemic racism. And he used the teaching of NoI to highlight that.

Love the books you read in November I’ve added some of them to my TBR 🥰 ok I’m a Christian but I know for sure we would never say God is black 😂🤦🏽‍♀️ we all know no one knows what he looks like and that goes for all religions, the audacity of Elijah 😅

It irks me that a religious group that people think are Christian have made graven images of God. We are not to do this! And for a group of people to try and put a race to God just seems to absolutely ridiculous. I will not be reading James Baldwin. Thank you for reading it so I don't need to. 😁 You already read so many different genres. 📚📚 I think I have Half Broke Horses. I started it, but couldn't get interested in it. I think it's time to give it away. =)
