The variance equation for linear conbinations of random variables can tell you a lot about the weighted sum (dot product.) Also ReLU is a switch. The AC electricty in your house is a sine wave. Turn on a light and the output of the switch is f(x)=x, a sine wave. Off f(x)=0. A ReLU neural network is a switched composition of dot products. This leads to Fast Transform (fixed filter bank) neural networks.👿👽👻
