United took 5 years to replace Jaap Stam with Nemanja Vidic

Ferguson got rid of him because of his comments in his book. He’s lying when he says its because he thought he was finished. Ferguson had a massive ego and anyone challenging that would go. Even if they were still good enough. That was his one weakness.

Stam leaving was a glaring mistake.. But the worst was that they didnt have a good replacement... He replaced Stam because he thought he'd lost half a yard... But replaced him with someone older and slower in Laurent Blanc who was massively out of his depth at that age... Didnt make any sense...Cost them the league in '02...and probably a UCL....The partnership really should have been Rio & Stam... until Vidic joins in '06.

So jaap had lost a bit of pace so they sold him and bought a 36 year old Blanc. Hmmmm makes total sense.

Frost didn't have the nerve to say "And what was the real reason Sir Alex?"

Absolute nonsense. Sold same week his book was released saying Fergie had tapped him up. Stam had just turned 29 and was at his peak. £16.5m was no money. Utd paid £30m for Rio following year.

Ferguson telling porkies here. It was because of Stam’s book.

United should look to sign Stam again now, he'd do no worse defending than the current crop.

He sold him because of the book not because of injury

Jaap said it was about the book. Ferguson blanked him and sold him out the blue. Not a way to treat people

We could have told you that at the time Alex. Took them years to replace him. But Stam spoke out about Ferguson and The Gaffer wasn’t having it. Utd payed the price though

No Fergie he was only 29 when you sold him. Although maybe deep down he actually knew that during the interview...

Sol Campbell was available an Utd stalled . He gave Arsenal the double that year

He can't even tell the truth after the fact. Ferguson was a great manager but his character is often questionable.

No mention of the real reason they got rid of him, the book.

It was a Fergie power move after the autobiography so he could keep discipline within the team and show who was the boss. Sometimes you have to sacrifice no matter the cost.

He replaced Stam, cos Stam hinted at dodgy dealings in his tramsfer

Big mistake Fergie, because a duo between Stam and Ferdinand would have been hugeee, easily back to backs Chanpions League trophies in 2002 and 2003... 🤷

Love you Ferguson, but I’m calling you on your BS. You are arguably one of the best managers ever to manage the game. You sold Jaap because of the book, not cause you thought he was done. No bloody way! Definitely the worst decision you have ever made without a doubt. Good on ya for admitting it was a wrong decision, but shame you tried to crawl back saying you thought he was done. You could see he wasn’t done. And Blanc was ok but no where close to Stam!!! The man was a brick wall. Definitely be in my all time United dream team.

Ferguson is full of bulls**t he got rid of him because of the book. Jaap Stam spoke to Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright about it on 'Stick To Football' on Sky.
