It genuinely is a pretty benign test and not worth worrying about! Everyone has their own perception of the electrical stimulus but most of my patients feel it as just a sharp tap. Some patients do feel it very painfully but some can even fall asleep. The key is not to be nervous about it and the more relaxed you are, the quicker it goes. Good luck with it and I hope it goes smoothly and painlessly and sheds light on whatever the problem is. Bw Simon

Had this done today. It really isn't that bad. It's more of a weird sensation than a pain. The worry was worse than the test. I could easily take the test again without hesitation.

I have to take this test in a couple weeks and I am terrified! Everyone I know who has taken it said it is very painful. I can't believe you did it on yourself!

I had the nerve conduction test done about 11 years ago. PAINFUL AS HELL!! I was given Gabapentin and it did absolutely nothing for me. My neuropathy has gotten worse over the years. I started taken B12 a few years ago and I can’t tell whether it helps or not. Going to try B1 and B3. I hope it helps. I get lightning bolt pain sensation coming out my feet. My ankle region burns like Hell fire!

Very well demonstrated- I found my EMG so much easier than the NCS, felt very static afterwards. When you stuck the needle in forearm I thought could hear noise when it was at rest? I thought muscle is usually silent at rest? Or is the needle just very sensitive?

I've been having cubital tunnel symptoms for the past 6-8 months and have difficulty drawing. My emg turned out normal. Can anyone help?

Hi Dr Simon, thanks a lot for the demonstration. Would a tongue EMG be silent at rest? I had a whole body emg test done but my tongue emg was not silent even at rest (there was a background noise). Thank you.

Dr, I have a question about nerve study. I have low back pain, leg pain and symptoms of radiculopathy. I had a nerve study last year and the doctor put the needles in my leg and said that my nerves were normal, but should the doctor also put needles in my lower back to check the nerve? Or would the leg tell if there was impingement going on in my lower back?

Thanks for the video! If you were to test for suspected parson Turner syndrome that was affecting bilateral deltoid, peck and scapula area would you do the electrical part on those areas? Or just the forearms and wrists?
