My good friend Joss Allen recently became the proud recipient of a signature Vola guitar: the OZ 24 RV JAM J1! Available in Le Mans Metallic Green and Charger Orange, the guitar has everything (as you’d expect) that Joss would want from a six-string – mahogany body, roasted maple neck and 12” fingerboard with stainless steel frets and a bone nut, single coil Vola neck and middle pickups and a splittable Vola bridge humbucker, Gotoh hardware throughout, and made in Japan (Joss’s favorite place in the world).

So, I decided to get Joss on the channel and tell us all about it. Here we talk about how Joss first got involved with Vola, how he got a signature model, the design/build process, the unique finishes he chose, and more – enjoy!

Here’s the links to all the different questions and parts of the discussion:

00:00 Hello and introduction!
01:44 Joss has new Vola signature guitars!
03:55 Does Joss feel he’s worthy of a signature guitar?
08:33 How did Joss first get involved with Vola, and how did the signature guitar come about?
14:42 How was the design/prototype process?
16:58 How free was Joss during the design process? How much creative control did he have over specs, features, etc.?
18:56 Did he have to design the guitar to a specific price point?
20:04 All about the pickups, and why the guitar has Vola pickups and not Seymour Duncan pickups
23:05 The roasted maple neck and why Joss chose it
24:59 The neck profile
25:54 Stainless steel frets
26:31 The two finishes: Le Mans Green…
30:43 Joss put Monty's Guitars pickups in this one by the way
31:31 … and Charger Orange!
35:04 The five-way selector switch and pickup options
35:48 Joss loves his super-bright guitar finishes… why?
37:22 Why is there no Joss Allen signature on the guitar?
39:23 Some signature guitars can be too OTT and put people off
40:28 Who is going to buy the Joss Allen signature? Who’s it aimed at?
40:56 There’s only a few of the original run left! So be quick…
42:30 Will there be more once the original batch sells out?
43:10 There’s videos with Joss, one with Rabea coming – anything else cool planned?
44:40 Rabea is the master guitar review/demo guy
48:22 Joss is done with the world of YouTube demos for himself!
48:58 Joss is now focusing on his own music and creative output again
50:16 Go check out Joss’s music and the Vola guitars now! Links below :)

Enjoy!
