3D Printing helped save lives when Cristian Fracassi from Isinnova modeled and 3d printed a Venturi valve for respirators. Italian doctors couldn't get them fast enough from the manufacturer for the Coronavirus / COVID-19 response. This story took hold, and many reached out wondering how THEY can help with their 3d printers. Here are some ways to help!

Joel, I can feel your emotions from here in Houston. Sending love your way and out to everyone. I am 46 years old and can't remember the last time I was truly fearful of something. These are troubling times, but with You-Tubers like you and many others it make the day a little brighter.

I'm working from home for a couple of weeks, and right now my printer is printing parts for faceshields for swedish health care workers. It feels good to do something to help the ones that have to battle this virus.

I am an Italian and European patent attorney (and 3d printing enthusiast). I can confirm that the legal system in Italy and throughout Europe will never allow anybody who produces medical products in a medical emergency. International law (TRIPS and such) specifically allows for this to happen in medical emergencies. Further, patent law cannot be used to prevent treatment of people(only for companies that make a business from it, like Pharmas and such)

I live in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. These times are definitely nuts. Anyway, as a maker, I'm trying to use all this spare time to do two things: 1:fixing things at home that needed some "love" (and needed it years ago but I didn't have the time) and 2: playing a lot with my 5 years old son 😍.
Stay safe,
Giovanni

This reminds me of the history of countries in WW1, more so in WW2 that went from doing one thing to another to build a mighty industry to support a cause.
This is the equivalent of what the 3D community can be geared into during an emergency.

I work in AM at one of the major aerospace companies in the US. We just got word this morning that we might start printing a bunch of parts for ventilators

To think the asking price for one of these valves is supposed to be between 16 000 and 40 000 USD. I've looked at one of these valves, I'm an engineer with 30 years experience in plastic parts design for the car manufacturing industry, and I simply cannot see how such a piece of simple technology can cost so much. That's why it's great to see rapid prototyping (the term we use in my field of work for 3D-printing) used to make these valves affordable for everyone. Keep up the good work!

Schools etc, are closed here in Wales now too, and finally England shortly afterwards. We have two granddaughters living with us, one works in the local supermarket. Shelves are empty day in day out. It feels like something out of a sci-fi movie. The only thing that is keeping me sane is my family and putting my mind on planning mod upgrades to my 3D printer. No doubt like everywhere else, our country is plagued by the very worst of humanity, that is contrasted by the very best. On a local Facebook group today this woman, apparently a mother herself, was advertising baby formula for £130 saying she only had a few left. Needless to say the comments aimed at her summed it up nicely. Stay safe everyone, no matter where you are.

Hey Joel! Greetings from Austria, hope you are fine. Something OT I just wanted to tell ;) An austrian journalist brought something you've said to a good point. She said:" We should not practice socal distancing, we should do physical distancing!"
In my opinion, this is a good point. We should come socialy together even closer nowadays, but we should keep our physical distance.
