RAINBOW MOUNTAINS of CHINA: Why You Need To Visit Zhangye

China's Rainbow Mountains can be found in the Danxia Landform Geopark near the city of Zhangye. We took a day trip by train and spent the day exploring the different mountains and rock formations during the day and at sunset.

Here's a rundown of everything we did in Zhangye:

Getting the train from Xining to Zhangye - 0:57
The views from the train onto the Chinese countryside was pretty spectacular.

Hiring a private car for the day - 1:17
We met some other travellers in our hostel and decided to share a private car and driver to take us around for the day. This was also good as we had our big backpacks with us!

Exploring Danxia National GeoPark - 1:33
Looking around the more peaceful side of the park, which looks a lot like the national parks of Australia or the US. There are buses that you can get all around the park.

Visiting the Rainbow Mountains at Sunset - 3:07
Exploring the many boardwalks of the Danxia Landform GeoPark. The views are pretty spectacular, but you need to go and find the quieter spots.

I couldn't see the "rainbow" colours they show on the internet, I came here to get a more realistic look of what it would be like and it seems they really hype it up for tourism, a lot of those photos look like real rainbows, the real thing looks like you'd actually expect.
