NYC has been in decline during the past few years before covid. Covid only accelerated the decline. I am extremely frustrated with the policy makers who have led to this decline.

Moved to NYC when I was 18 in 2007 from Chicago and been living here ever since. The city will eventually bounce back up. I do miss the people and the crowdedness.

I was born and raised in Manhattan and I miss the old New York of my youth. The grungy, dirty 70's and 80's. You could also live in an apartment that you didn't need to take your arms and legs off to rent.

The past year and half has been tough on many cities and definitely on us.
I feel that I really need a mental break 😕

I have been living in nyc for 20 years. I like the outdoor dining and some changes brought by the pandemic. But the random crime, homelessness, noise have increased. I have seen so many people defecating in the streets, car crashes like never before.
The son of a guy who fixes bikes on my street was shot and killed last summer.
Rents are skyrocketing again. The traffic has surpassed Los Angeles.
I live in a rent stabilized apartment in Williamsburg Brooklyn, but the white noise, random noise makes it hard to wake up in the morning.
I am grateful that Covid restrictions are not too crazy. But NYC used to be more fun and more affordable.
Now is for the wealthy or people who live in subsidized housing. The middle class is being squeezed.
Still there are many opportunities for people who are good at executing business plans.
But the quality of life is not so great beyond a consumeristic and affluent life.

As a New Yorker that left to Miami. I honestly have to say that NYC as beautiful and cool as it is...is honestly extremely expensive and just more of a vacation spot enjoyment than a living enjoyment. I do not miss the sirens, the loudness, the overall lack of peace that you can barely find in the city. There is always a massive amount of noise or white noise. Is funny cause now I live in South Miami which is quite calm and still i hear white noise from NYC stuck on my ears lmao. I hope NY recovers better but it has a different vibe right now. I disagree with heavy lockdowns so they killed my best friends business. So bye bye. I won't be back unless I have the money for a 5 million dollar space lmao.

Sadly as long as rents stay high nyc is dead for most. Alot of us were hopeful that rents would keep falling. Most new Yorkers don't go out much as most of their paycheck goes to rent. 🙄
