What’s happening in this Patch Adams movieclip?
Patch (Robin Williams from Hook) and Mitch (Philip Seymour Hoffman from Doubt and Red Dragon) are arguing about what kind of doctor they want to be. Mitch wants to be a real doctor, capable of saving lives, while Patch is more concerned about the happiness of the patients. Later, Patch is having dinner with his best friend Truman (Daniel London), who agrees with Mitch and advises Patch to lay low.

What’s the movie Patch Adams about?
In the early 1970s, Hunter "Patch" Adams (Robin Williams from Hook, Good Will Hunting and Awakenings) was a gifted but eccentric medical student who, after a suicide attempt and a stay in a psychiatric hospital, discovered a gift for bringing comfort and help to his fellow man through laughter. He then believed with conviction in a revolutionary more human and relational approach to medicine. With two fellow students and friends, he developed a humanitarian nursing home that helps people who cannot find the help they need from medicine. His unusual and disconcerting methods disturbed the habits of his university and a part of the hierarchy that repeatedly tried to exclude him. Thanks to his excellent results and the many supports he received, he finally managed to successfully complete his studies and transform his nursing home into a real clinic based on these revolutionary principles. This method subsequently met with increasing development and success.

It’s such a fallacy to believe that you have to be a serious prick to be a good doctor. It’s called bed side manner!! And more doctors need classes on that. Just because you’re able to save lives doesn’t mean you can’t connect with people, the best doctors are the ones that can actually do both.
