Jelly Roll's POWERFUL Senate Speech On Fentanyl Crisis

Jelly Roll is speaking out on a cause that's close to his heart. The rising country star, 39, addressed Congress in a powerful Capitol Hill testimony on Jan. 11, sharing why he's so passionate about urging for government action on the continued fentanyl crisis. The singer attended the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing on the FEND Off Fentanyl Act and delivered a searing five-minute speech in which he reflected on his personal experience with the devastating effects of addiction. "I've attended more funerals than I care to share with you all [on] this committee,” he said in part. "I could sit here and cry for days about the caskets I've carried of people I loved dearly, deeply in my soul — good people, not just drug addicts. Uncles, friends, cousins, normal people, some people that just got in a car wreck and started taking a pain pill to manage it. One thing led to the other and how fast it spirals out of control — I don't think people truly, truly understand."

One of my children is in their 6 months of recovery. To come home and find your child overdosing still haunts me. To get him help was a nightmare. We need to close these borders, we need to put more security in the secondary airports, better mental health crises. I am a 30 yo 15x fentanyl overdose survivor. I am also a father of two beautiful baby girls. A husband of a beautiful woman. A son of two loving parents. A brother of the two most amazing siblings. 15x all my loved ones almost lost me. At 26 yo I was a responsible miner and father and husband and brother and son and between then and now at 30yo I’ve died more times that I should’ve survived. It all started with a prescription of Vicodin after an accident I knew nothing about Vicodin I knew nothing about opioids. That prescription quickly turned into a 70 pill a day habit that led to heroin that let to fentanyl. I am now a year clean and sober. Please, please, I beg you do something about these problems. Please educate your children on the dangers of opioids and other drugs. It is imperative that each person in not only the USA but the world to talk about it with their children and everyone they know to start a decline of untimely deaths from overdoses. God bless!
