MGB GT Review at The Great British Car Journey

When you think of a classic British sports car the first thing that may spring to mind is the Jaguar E Type, perhaps the second and most realistic for may of us to potentially experience is the long running MGB either as a Roadster or the GT.
The car was very successful for MG running from the mid 1960's all the way through the 70's before bowing out in the early 1980's as the hot hatch craze took hold. The car featured in this video is a fairly late example with US compliant rubber impact bumpers. This car was filmed and provide by 'Drive Dad's Car' at 'The Great British car journey where you too could visit the museum and perhaps drive this very car or one of the many other classics available. Excellent review Mark, I really do like the MGB with Rubber bumpers as well as the ones with chrome.

Great review. A friend was a manager for Woolworths in the 1970s, with responsibility for setting up the Schreiber furniture range & sales, he managed 35, 000 miles per year in MGB Gts, new car every 12 months, later upgraded to Capri 2.8 injection

Great review, thanks! I have a 1974.5 (sold as 1975) MGB roadster, the first rubber bumpers but it still has the duel SU carbs. In January 1975 they switched carbs and had more emission controls. On long drives it can be a chore, but I still love it!

Gday Mark...I have a 65 Roadster and love it. I notice on many of MGB reviews speak about the "heavy steering". I agree however I notice many have modified the original steering wheels to smaller sport types. I have a 16-1/2 original steering wheel, the generous diameter affords easy turning and handling. I think the look of the smaller diameter sportier wheels can be an impediment from handling perspective. Keep up the good work - cheers

Great update Mark, I’ve never driven an MGT but did like the looks, especially the 50th anniversary in green and gold or a nice V8, but was not sure if the drive lived up to the looks. Budget permitting the reincarnation RV8 made in the run up to the MGF launch might but a good bet… if I had the budget!

Ace vid mark! I had a British racing green MGBGT in the early nineties and we drove it down to the south of France in our kilts….free beer wherever we parked hahahahaha! Hated the restyles so changed em to mini lites lol. Oh had same velour seats but they were bright orange hahahaha. Loved it….wasn’t fast but cruised fine! 👍✌️😆. OMG had a look at their website and they’ve got the exact car my mum had converted from manual to automatic in the Eighties the orange Austin 1300 GT….I had fun in the snow in that car as a new driver in the eighties hahahahaha!

You need to drive it somewhere to get the feel of it....not just around a small perimeter and 'up to 20mph'. Also, the seat and cockpit placement are as they should be, even if they feel awkward to you. MGB's are excellent cars.
