Welcome to this English lesson where you'll learn some English words and phrases to talk about books! Books are amazing and reading is one of my favourite things to do. Reading books is also a great way to learn English!

In this lesson I'll go over some advanced English vocabulary related to books. I'll help you learn English words and phrases like avid reader, bookworm, spine and autobiography. As always this will be much more than an English vocabulary class. In addition to learning new words this will make great listening practice and help you improve your vocabulary.

I hope you enjoy this English lesson about books!

⌛ Remember: Always watch the video three times. Twice today with English subtitles on, and once tomorrow with the English subtitles off. This will reinforce the English you have learned!

People who learn Russian often say, "I want to read Dostoevsky in the original." When I was a teenager, I hated reading books that I needed to read in school. So I've read "Crime and Punish" only a couple of years ago in ... English. I know it's silly, but learning English helps me know my native language and culture in such unexpected way.

When I was younger, I was a so called bookworm and I'm still a reader however nowadays I better like reading English on the net. I was a fast reader, I used to have a lot of dog-eared pages in my book hence the quality of my books declined but I just had loved reading them again this way. There was a time when I even loved to crinkle the sides of the pages of my book... Nowadays I use a book mark because not all the books I read is mine - some are library books and I have to take better care of them. Thanks for this great topic, Bob!

I'm a big fan of reading. Whenever I have time on my hands I like to read detective stories. A gripping book is an excellent comfort food for my soul. I reccomend reading books to everyone.

From Bob's videos, not only do I learn English pronunciation but also how to think in English. He is a good story teller and can organize a bunch of words coherent with a certain topic. I really enjoy listening to Bob's English channel.

I have a book collection in one of the walls in my study. Those books 📚 are my best friends accompanying me to different hard phases in my life. I'm into real 📖, enjoying the smell of the paper, the sound of turning pages and the feel of the texture, so I'd like to buy actual books if they are valuable to me. I also spent bucks for my only daughter in picture books. Most of the stories are created out of Taiwan translated into Chinese. Those authors are so awesome that I couldn't help having them e.g. Arnold Lobel, 宮西達也(a author from Japan ), etc..
I read them for my daughter since she was one year old. Those reading time between us lasting at least more 8 years, unforgettable and priceless.
Hope my daughter would take well advantage of her picture books, maybe she could read them for her descendants. 😊📖🎀

What a great lesson! I miss Canada a lot, its fantastic libraries included. I brought books with me when I left. Currently reading a Mordecai Richler bio book. I bought many books in Vancouver's 2nd hand bookstores!

I was hiring a tutor a few years ago and I told her that I was a slow reader and had only read a few books in English. She asked me how many books I had read. I replied, something like 10 books for levels from beginner to intermediate.
The tutor replied, "This means that you have read 10 more books than most of the people read in a foreign language."
My reaction: 😳
