I think the entire world must respect Vietnam for saving Cambodian people from Pol Pot’s bloody regime!

I'm cambodian from America.

Cambodia was a colony of France. Most of the government officials spoke French, and cambodia was mostly a monarchy but colony of france.

Pol pot (he aint a king, just some dude from a well off family) went to France to study and learned about communism of the likes of Karl Marx and was inspired of Maos "great leap forward" then came back to cambodia because he failed university in France.

During this time, the Cold War was ending, and it was about communism and capitalism. And the vietnam war was startin. Pol pot had supporters as a small group... but America bombed cambodia ho chi trail because it's connected to Vietnam, and the Viet was using it for supply lines. On that trail was mostly cambodian folks. (A Neutral country during the bombings approved by nixon and hissenger).

So Pol pot and his second other in command pulled a propganda play and gathered more power for their cause. Just like how in Vietnam it was a split between capitalism and communism the same was going for cambodia... it was split between the French supporters and their system against those that aligned with communism, China was backing up those folks.

Ofcourse communist overthrew the current government during that time and then Pol pot wanted to bring cambodia into a peasant farmer agricultural state/country (inspired by maos great leap forward). Cambodia became kampuchea under the khmer rouges rule or "red khmer".. red being communist color.

Then the genocide happened since they wanted to create a new cambodia by going backwards since they believed the rich was living off the backs of the poor. Light skin (rich city folks) dark skin (country side farmers/poor folks)

So now, if you wore glasses... you were killed, monk? Killed, former supporters of France? Killed, doctor? Artist? Killed. Cambodian mix race or minority? Killed.

Those who survived was force marched to the country side for manual labor from the capital and other cities...

Farmers who worked the land knew how to farm but not the massive scale the khmer Rouge wanted... so crops wasn't meeting quotas... buuut that means you didn't work hard enough for the cause.. killed, not enough food for you? Hungry? "We not giving you enough food, you think the cause can't supply you?", killed. Stole food from the fields? Killed. Pregnant? Delivered a baby but you gatta take care of the baby instead of work? Killed. But first, we kill your baby by smacking it on the killing tree.

How did this end? Nam folks basically said "ight this shit is fucked up and we don't know why its happening in cambodia but we ganna step in" fortunately they was supplied with proper weapons and they focus the war efforts against the khmer rouge which the khmer rouge was in more power (they was highly backed up by china at this point). The khmer rouge would have pushed into nam. But thankfully khmer rouge was imploding during that time so nam was able to push the khmer rouge into the forest and have them disperse.

Then the good white folks of the humanitarian aid came through and shipped us around the world to the democratic countries.

So here i am...

I'm first generation cambodian in america meaning... my mom is a refugee and I was born in Dallas 30 years ago. In summary of cambodia there was a Cou of the current regime before the communist took power. To say they were solely communist is incorrect.

The sad part about this story is everything was a domino piece. Without the cold war the ideas of capitalism and communism wont come to be... if they didn't come to be, nam wouldnt be split between the economic practices which then lead to war between north and south which then involved america directly, at the same time the worse president nixon was in office and made america get involved directly instead of just supporting via currency like china/russia did to the vietcongs. It is because the war that lead to the bombings... then pol pot had a "i failed art school" in france like hitler did in germany... then he came back to cambodia and played propganda that lead the genocide... domino peices.

The only bright side to this story is that... little cambodian seeds was planted all accross the world. In America, Australia, and France some are in canada too.

Also this song in khmai/khmer is about animals drinking and getting high. Not about pol pot.
