The sad reality is that this story is mild in comparison to what Disney actually does to keep things under copyright. Even stories/characters that were the expired IP of others. Disney has somehow managed to take things from public domain and copyright them as if they were original IP. Additionally, they go to great lengths to circumvent copyright lifespans. Allowing them to hold copyrights well beyond the allotted time.
