I have a theory that Lumine (if you choosed Aether) already travelled throught Teyvat and that her travel companion was Dainsleif, because Dain and Paimon have some very similar things, Dain also said that in the past he had a female travel companion and he seems to know alot about Lumine. Actually imagine how cool would it be that if you choose Lumine you get lil Dain instead of Paimon lol.

Even if we treat paimon like food she is still the one who was with us since the beggining and if she dies or become the villain we will all be sad and I would feel so betrayed like I called her food and mascot for jokes but I still care for her

So, this is my theory about this moment. As we can see (it was also in the initial version of the genshin), our sister was pierced by a weapon, it could have been done by paimon. Then Aether will lose the paimon, and decide to swim to the island where there is a mysterious mechanism, and will turn back time even before he and Lumine met an unknown god. Accordingly, all those who were helped by the traveler will forget him. Or perhaps he will return the time even before the war of the Archons. But I still don't think Paimon is bad.
