Gets cut off the moment he says that bass is a poor harmonic instrument. I found that really funny given the channel this is posted on.

"Harmonically poor" doesn’t refer to chords or harmony by the way. Harmony and harmonics are different concepts.

Harmonics are a good way to tell how well your bass is setup, I can get mist of mine to play 4 or 5 harmonucs...Adam's bass is setup perfectly

I can only go as far as third harmonic on bass. But that is an incredible way of explaining it. Also well done on how high you can go with the harmonics.

I had to do a job shadow for high school and i ended up cold calling a renowned bass player in the american new age jazz scene (i guess lol i didnt/dont know anything about that world) named Glenn Moore who ended up giving me lessons free for a little while and the beginning of every group lesson was all of us going up and down the neck finding and playing all of the harmonics. Glenn is an awesome dude and he let me play his beautiful bass made in the 1790s! it had a carved lions head on the headstock and he used a low c instead of e :)

understanding why there are harmonics in certain places and that theyre not really where you would fret on the string helped me a lot. my 7th fret harmonic is closer to the fret line while my 12th fret harmonic is a little more in the middle of the fret.. thank you very much!

My favorite harmonic is on the 4th fret

This also helps explain why plucking at different spots yields different tones. Try to pluck from over the neck and find the harmonic nodes that are over the body.

I personally study audio and sound as well as tons of other things…and this is how I describe harmonics to folks, just not as clear…AWESOME DUDE !!

the cool thing is that the energy that they have is inversely proportional to the denominator of the fraction that describes portion of string

The first time that I heard harmonics was when Jeff Ament used them on "Even Flow" (when he slid on a harmonic) and "Jeremy" but I just didn't know what it was.

He threw a shade at bass in the end there :D

Charles berthoud did a playing god cover with harmonics that sounded amazing though

But the fun thing about bass is we can hear more harmonics on it because more of them exist inside the human hearing range
