I think that Sjogren's Syndrome slowed Vee down more than people realize. It's a very hard thing to find my granny R.I.P had this and it took doctors more than a decade to finally figure out what it was. And the fact she was still able to win 7 grand slams playing with it for years not knowing what it was is even more incredible.

For me steffi graf was the queen 👑 of tennis. Very humble, dignified and so down to earth player in the world. I have watched all her grandslams live. Amazing. Love and affection is always.
I wish her and family God's abandon blessings forever. 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏

Look at who they played. Serena, as great as she is, and she certainly is one of the top two or three, has had no serious competition in the last ten or twelve years. Many of the "number one" ranked players she defeated never even won a grand slam event. Her biggest rival throughout her career was her sister (seven slams). She had no rivals in her career who had double digit career slams. Steffi Graf, on the other hand, played Navratilova (18 grand slams) 18 times, spitting 9-9. She played Evert (near the end of her career, but still..) 10 times (6-4). She also had to contend with Monica Seles when she was still Monica Seles. Graf also retired at 30, with 22 slams, a Golden Slam (the only singles player to this day, male or female to have one), more total titles, and a higher win percentage than Serena, AND, if you include an exhibition match, holds a 2-1 head to head over Serena.
Navratilova similarly had Evert (at the peak) and Graf at her peak, and Seles (at her peak!!

Also, I’m fairly certain Venus was displaying symptoms of Sjogrene’s Syndrome as early as 2004. By 2005, she was diagnosed with “exercise-induced asthma”, which she later said might have been Sjogrene’s but misdiagnosed as exercise-induced asthma. So not only Serena’s birth but Sjogrene’s and injuries robbed Venus of so many slams. It’s a shame. As great and rare as Serena is, I don’t think we’ll ever see a player like Venus again. No player with such height has ever been as fast as Venus. Tall players in the women’s game tend to hit hard but run slow. Venus hit hard AND was one of the fastest on tour of all time. While Serena could disguise her serve with her ball toss, Rick Macci said Venus had the best backhand down the line of all time because she disguised it so well. Love Venus. Shame disease robbed her career of slams.

Very good list. I think the top 5 stand way above all others. You could make a point for all 5 of them for the number one spot. For me it is Steffi Graf, but as i said you can also make a point for each of the other four.

Well researched top ten list.
Serena Williams played two tours singles and doubles. Most top players can not accomplish the extraordinary feat of dominating in singles and doubles. Serena's accomplishment makes her the Goat. Graf who was the best in her day played only singles. And she benefited from Monica's stabbing. Monica was constantly beating Graf before the stabbing.

For me greatest female tennis player of last 60 years are (not counting doubles titles)
1. Steffi Graf (most impressive CV among male or female, difficult to assume her weakest surface, she is GOAT)
2. Navratilova (set modern standard of WTA with her fitness & athleticism. Set some eye popping numbers which is difficult to surpass)
3. Serena (amazing longevity, most slams in open era but lacks consistency outside of majors)
4. Margaret Court (most successful slam champion but her 11 A.O tainted her records as those comes in very weak & depleted fields)
5. Chris Evert (most consistent player ever & first superstar of WTA)
6. Billie Jean King (in terms of impact on WTA, she is no 1)
7. Monica Seles (what if... One of the greatest competitor in tennis)
8. Justine Henin (best female clay court player of the 21st century)
9. Venus Williams (if she had retired 8 or 9 years ago, she would have been higher on this list, her performance in last 10 years is awful)
10. Evonne Goolagong Cawley (most graceful champion ever)

Frankly it's a three way races for GOAT crown in women's tennis (Steffi, Martina & Serena).

For me it is Graf. She played until 30 and won 22 slams. Then retired to enjoy her life. Terrific player, and a true professional.

It’s not even a contest! Graf won 22 Grand Slams by the time she was 30 and she skipped the Australian 5 times, as it wasn’t considered a big tournament back in the day. Serena’s career started a little earlier, even so by the time she was 30 she only had won 13 Grand Slams. In 1988 and 1989 Graf only lost one of the Grand Slams and she actually served for the win but didn’t covert. In any case, in 1988 she won all four Grand Slams in the same calendar year, Serena never did this, in the same year Graf won the year end WTA Championships and she won an Olympic Gold, then she won the first slam of the next year. In 1988 Graf only lost three matches. In 1989 she was 86-2. She reached the final of every tournament she played. She won sixty-six consecutive matches. In 1989 seventy eight of her eighty six wins were in straight sets. Graf was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for a record 377 total weeks: the longest period for which any player, female or male, has held a singles number-one ranking since the WTA and the Association of Tennis Professionals, respectively, began issuing rankings. Serena played 10 more years and was ranked number one a total of 186 weeks. Obviously, Graf hadn't retired at age 30 she would have crushed all records.
